Prologue

The legend is that thirteen years ago the rulers of heaven & the underworld started a war against one another. The ruler of Heaven was a woman, whose name was Nova, and the ruler of the Underworld was a man, who was named Jaxon. The war wasn't started by both Nova, and Jaxon, but their reasons were completely different. Nova's reasons were nearly endless, but she only told a few to her servants, and friends, but she believed that Jaxon was trying to make her empire weaker. Nova also thought that about three-fourths of men go to the underworld. Jaxon’s reason was that he believed that there should only be one afterlife, and so he became greedy. The two used to be very good friends. They had two daughters before the war. One was the

It’s very unusual for a girl who controls fear to feel hope. I felt it when I received a letter from my sister, Aurora. It was placed at the willow tree that I go to when I must trial a soul to see what tribe they fit in. The tribes were based on behavior during when they were alive. Of course they aren’t very good tribes, because everyone who comes down to the Underworld have done horrible things in their life. My sister is the ruler of heaven, and all the souls that were good or normal behaving while they were alive go to her. I think that’s the reason my father was so envious of my mother, and I believe that that’s why he began the war. I hardly remember my mother, and sister. I look more like my father. I remember him very clearly. His hair matched his dark brown eyes, and his lips were so red it was like he had blood on his lips. His skin looked like an olive color, but it looked as if he was nearly white. Sometimes my father reminded me of the vampires. The only thing I remember about my mother is her laugh. It was light and sweet, and reminded me of candy, but my dad’s laugh was as bad as a banshee laugh. It was deep, low, and reminded me of death. My sister and I were four years old when the war started, and we were forced away from each other. Every night I read the letter once …show more content…
I experienced fear by being separated from my twin sister, Zoë, and when the war started. I hardly remember my father, but I remember a lot about my mother. I remember her flawlessly perfect black hair with brown highlights that were so small you could barely see them, and she had her sky blue eyes that twinkled. Her skin was fair, and flawless, and even without makeup her face looked like her eyes were the main feature. The only thing I remember about my father is that his eyes were a deep brown, and that’s the only thing I inherited from him, everything else about me looks like my mother. When I received the news that my mother and father both died during the war made me panic, and I was very close to crying, and if a ruler of heaven cries then the world is thrown into chaos. The last time a ruler of heaven cried was about 65 million years ago, and when two of her tears touched the ground a comet appeared in the sky, and it killed everything. The mortals call it the comet theory, and they’re 98% right. When I found out my mother died I realized that Iris, my vanilla colored labrador retriever, was the only family I had left other that Zoë. I named my puppy Iris, because in greek mythology the rainbow goddess was named Iris. I got her when I was 3 years old, and it was when my sister and I were still together. I remember how the world looked when the war started. It was a time
