I chose to attend Wor-Wic Community College because of the support system that Wor-Wic has to offer. I applied to the school and attended it while I was injured with a traumatic knee injury and the staff really proved to me that they cared. I had surgery the first week of classes,so I emailed my teacher and they were all understanding and extremely helpful in accommodating to my needs. The late computer lab hours really helped me to be able to get my school work done after my night classes ended. Everywhere that I go I advocate for Wor-Wic because it is truly more than an institution, it is like another family to me.…

Andrew, I truly believe that trade schools or some call them vocational schools are vital for positively influencing students particularly in the Alaskan villages. Believe it or not there are villages that do not have broad band availability let alone dial up capability to support cell phones, laptops or computers. Edgecomb in Sitka offer vocational educational programs to educate these students in villages or remote areas who want marketable skills yet do not seek a college degree. Subsistence families usually do not see the need for higher education to continue their traditional lifestyle.…

A big thing for MIG welding is having your welder set wrong (go welding). You have to know how to set your machine, or once you start welding and mess up ten to fifteen parts your boss isn’t going to be pleased. He is going to see that you have no idea what you are doing and he is going to fire you. When MIG welding, you cannot get used to on using one machine, you have to be able to weld on different welder if yours messes up (go welding). You need to learn how to clean your metal before you weld on it so that it will produce a better weld.…
