Throughout the play, there have been various undertones of jealousy. In the third act of Shakespeare’s Othello, jealousy manifests within many individuals. Before we saw Iago’s jealousy towards many people in his life; however, now he is instilling his jealousy in others. Iago is planting thoughts in Othello’s head about Desdemona being unfaithful. He even uses the reoccurring theme of Desdemona’s fathers warning to Othello when he was trying to stir Othello’s jealousy “She did deceive her father, marrying you”(3.3.208). Throughout the text Othello is portrayed as a levelheaded man, but when he is brought to the thought that Desdemona could have been sleeping with a friend that he esteemed so highly he begins to loose his mind and his temper.
