One similarity between these two is the spare mechanic. Throughout both games you get the choice to spare or kill monsters; there are only two monsters that you are forced to fight, but you can still spare them after weakening them. If you choose to be a pacifist in “Undertale” (Fox) then at the end of the game you are going to get a boss battle with Flowey, the enemy of the game. However, we figure out that Flowey is the same exact character that is son of the King, and saved a human being whilst getting himself killed. If you choose to do the “bad-kid” route then you will end up fighting one of the most laid back characters in the whole game, named Sans, but he is the hardest boss. Having the bad guy actually the good guy is a great and unexpected twist. Making the most laid back character very difficult is also a great twist. The game even continues to enforce the false perception by giving him weak stats and saying “the weakest character in the game” when you check him. In “Mother” (APE) you make friends with someone named Pokey at the beginning, and you believe him to be a good guy. You don’t see Pokey for a while, and then at the end you see that he is teamed up with the main villain in the story, Giygas. Just like in “Undertale” (Fox) “Mother” (APE) is similar in that it’s so shocking to see the good guys and bad guys mixed up.
There are multiple different similarities and differences between “Undertale” (Fox) and “Mother” (APE). Both games give you a choice that most games don’t have, to spare.
