I am working with people who are within a few years of my age, but I am also working with people who are a lot older then me. The first concept of communicating with your clients is so important like I said working with younger people I know the slang and wording that they use today so if the time is appropriate then I can use it with them. But I can’t take that language back and use it with my supervisor or other agency’s that come in and out of the school. This is where the balance comes in I need to know when it is and is not appropriate and what type of language to use. The second concept of knowing whom your communicating with is also very important. I know the way I talk with my students is very different then the way that I would talk with the principal or teacher who comes into the classroom. Again it’s just finding the balance between each thing. The concept of people first language is so important in my placemen. Working with students who have disabilities or intellectual delays I get to see how they work on every day task. I cant just refer to one student as the autistic to student I work with. Why I found this interesting is one day the sub teacher that was in for the day played a video about these famous and very smart people who all had some sort of delay or challenge and it was very interesting to see the people first language that they used.
