During the civil war, literature focused on slavery, life stories of slaves and people, and the dark side of war such as losing home. Literature pieces such as Uncle Tom’s Cabin explained the dark side of slavery. It presented the truth behind slavery and shared the horrid lives of slaves which evoked the feeling of hatred in anti-slavery supporters towards the Confederacy.
