According to Barry Schwartz and his writing, “The Debasing of Education: Turning Play into Work,” there are two main types of learning, performance-oriented and mastery-oriented (Schwartz, Barry). Depending on the subject and what I was learning, I have been both. When I was taking my high school classes, most of the time my learning was performance-oriented. I did not really care about how well I learned something as long as for the time being I could regurgitate the information well enough to get a good grade and then forget it. Most of my outside of school learning has been mastery-oriented.…

I have always enjoyed talking personality tests to learn and establish what my strengths and weaknesses are, and to unravel perhaps a hidden ability (or disability) I had that I was never fully aware. In other words, I like talking personality tests to plainly find out the results, no matter how accurate or off-putting, and I was not disappointed when I found out the results to the “Learning Styles Inventory” test. In order from highest to lowest, my inventory score was as followed: visual, kinesthetic, and auditory. Not knowing what each of these learning abilities quite meant, however, I read the “Characteristics of Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic Modes” as the bottom of the second page, and found it very telling. After reviewing my answers and my scores, I can argue that this test was an accurate evaluation of what type…
