Understanding personal values assist nurses in decision processing throughout their nursing careers (Cherry & Jacob, 2014). Through personal evaluation of one’s values, nurses have a greater ability to understand the value of others (Cherry & Jacob, 2014). Self-assessment of personal values assist nurses in finding balance between the purpose of their organization and their own “individual sense of purpose” (Lynch, Bethne, & Costa, 2014). Therefore, Sue needs to examine her own personal values in order to make decisions in providing care for the indigent patients.
