1. Describe two situations where working in group is appropriate and inappropriate.
The task assigned is complex and involves different topics. Working in group is appropriate because each member can analyse one particular topic without interfering with the others.
The task assigned has a short time limit to be completed. Working in group is appropriate because, by equally dividing the work among the members, the task will be completed quicker than through and individual work.
The task is simple and involves one topic. Working in groups is inappropriate because members will work on the same topic bringing on different ideas and, therefore, interfering with each other. This would lead to a waste of time and resources.
Group members are selected without considering their attitude and commitment. Conflicts may arise between the members and tasks may not be fulfilled according to the pre-set format and time frame.
2. There are both advantages and disadvantages in working in groups.
Five advantages of working in groups are:
