The Systemic Dimensions of Family If the family is the genesis of all of our struggles with self, then the family should be where solutions are fostered and created. Family of origin issues linger, even your family isn’t around. Family of origin issues influence the way we proceed with life, and while individuals can achieve great things with a dysfunctional family of origin, true changes to the dynamic spread from the individual to the rest of the family system. Self-differentiation within the system removes old and worn roles that family assigns, allowing family of origin issues to be managed or eliminated for every member involved.…
The three targeted areas are urgently needed by the family system from the assessment are a stable home, an interaction between siblings, and addressing the major ongoing problem within the family. For a stable home, in the movie scene, it appears how unstable the Grapes family home is, the house is damaged, and they did not have enough money to rebuild it or fix the parts that were falling apart. The second target area is the interaction between siblings, they did not express their feelings towards each other or shared feelings among each other and instead kept it to themselves and left it hanging. It kind of goes with my third point which is addressing the major ongoing problem within the family. No one ever talked about the struggles the family was facing.…
It is important to know their beliefs and traditions so we don't make all the make the mistakes they made. Also, it's important because we want to know how they lived and what was best about it. This way we can make good things happen again. Just like killing animals for a sport if we do it too much an animal could go extinct. For every bad or good action, a person may have there is mostly a reaction.…
Disliking the thoughts of others should not be the dominant reason of one’s freedom and choice regarding marriage because in the end, the marriage is about you and your significant partner. Compared to what Prager said, marriage and family values are strongly linked and they will have pretty good reasons to convince most people to make the choice of getting married in his/her life eventually in the future. When choosing not getting married, people still need to recognize the possible social benefits it might leave on people. For years, marriage stays on the top of people’s to do list for they lives and it is hard to take it off from the majority…
We study history in order to know how humanity has gotten to where it is today, and learn from past mistakes. History helps us to understand where we come from. Family history helps expand that understanding. In this way, history is a part of our identities. The quote “ A man without history is a tree without roots” explains that without history we really aren’t anything, just like a tree cannot grow without roots, a person cannot develop without a history.…
The interview on my grandma (Mary, Ellen, Schambow) told me many things relating to her and are family like she told me her dad was adopted by her mom’s aunt and uncle and later they married, she told me they were from wisconsin, that some of our family traditions are to grill out in the summer and invite the whole family, I was told that she is French, German, and Irish, we were also settlers from those countries, she has only lived in Wisconsin, that are family usually makes bakery goods like cookies, pies, and angel food cake, are main job in our family is farming, working on the farm influenced her to be independent and hands on, and are family mostly lives in France but are in other parts of the world like Ireland, and Germany. What I have learned from this project is that family comes from different places and different backgrounds so grouping people into different things makes no sense at all. Another thing I have learned is that genealogy is related to culture by traditions and cultures getting passed down generation by…
It is important to know the beliefs and heritage of those who came before us because most of those beliefs and traditions make up some important things in our…
Like One of the Family is an incredible series of monologues that, like Roxane Gay so eloquently said, encourages understanding about an underrepresented group within society-the domestic worker (xiii). Specifically looking at the female black domestic worker, Like One of the Family, asks its readers to test their assumptions about female black characters and to gain empathy for their situation in life. Unlike The Help, in which a white woman saves the day by telling the stories of the black domestic workers, Like One of the Family provides a needed authenticity with a strong black woman at the center who has control over her own story. This control elevates Mildred from the position of a victim to a position of power. The conversational aspect of the novel offers a surprising optimism about the future of the domestic worker and ultimately African Americans.…
Furthermore, a sense of unity with a group and a sense of belonging can be founded. Cultural history provokes a map of which leads to answering the question of where one came from with a better understanding of past generations. By acknowledging and preserving our cultural heritage we are able to relate to a community of ones same kind. So thus agriculture, food, clothing, landscapes, architecture, religion all can be preserved and carried on from generation to generation. Mama and Maggie embrace their family history as one to be proud of.…
The reason people talk about their background (ancestors, culture, traditions) is because often these things are what make a person. A person surrounded by a distinct culture will be affected and most likely will affect their view on the world. An example of this is how Native Americans have high value for the natural world and all creatures of this earth. People who grow in this culture and practice their traditions will be affected and will give this world a different point of view from that of someone living elsewhere. It's important because these things are what mold us and teach us the things our ancestors value, which most likely will be valued by us too.…
During my last meeting with my partner we discussed kinship terms and created our family trees. My partner lived her entire life in Saudi Arabia only spoke Arabic before she came to the United States six months ago. Asking questions about the kinship terms that she uses revealed both similarities and differences about how our families are set up. This discussion showed that the ways that our families are structured are very different. We discussed the terms that my partner uses to with regards to members of her family, particularly with her immediate family members.…
This week’s topics cover Kinship and Marriage. Kinship is the blood relationship between people. Marriage is the union between man and women as partners in a relationship. The two films that were assigned are “Life, Above All”, directed by Oliver Schmitz and “Monsoon Wedding,” directed by Mira Nair. Both films tied into this week’s topics and also had similarities between them.…
Doing a Genogram about my family history, beliefs, and culture is somewhat difficult for me due to a number of reasons. One being that I never met my biological father therefore don’t know anything of the family background that compiles half of my genetic make up, another reason being because I know very little of my mother’s extended family, and frankly because I don’t think we really have many structured family beliefs. Before I dive into the cultural beliefs that my family has, let me quickly explain my family dynamic. My mother was one of two daughters. My aunt Debra moved to Texas before I was born and to this day I have never met her or anyone in her family.…
Elements of Kinship and Relatedness Before this course, I never gave much thought about kinship or relatedness. My, somewhat ignorant, viewpoint, was that relatedness stemmed from a combination of affinal and consanguineal ties. Now that I have looked more in depth at multiple societies, and given more thought over my own, I believe relatedness is completely cultural and relies on a hybrid of marital relations, shared living spaces, continuing contact and interaction, and social constructs in order to flourish.…
Personal Background: My personal morals act as a basis for differentiating between right and wrong and that determine my daily actions and emotions. The relationship I have with God and the role my aunt played in my upbringing has a profound role in the development of my intimate core values. Then were other additional influences such as virtue base approaches that include personal integrity, ambition, and family, accountabilities, which determine my conduct. I was a mother at the age of seventeen not of my own doing, but I accept the responsibility when all other was not agreeing with my decision.…
