I believe that growing up in the Austin neighborhood of Chicagoan underserved community, will allow me to relate to and address the patient’s needs more effectively and with empathy. One of my aspirations to become a nurse, was to practice in an underserved community. For this reason, I am applying to the NURSE Corps Program as the mission is to provide quality medical care to those who cannot afford it or do not have access. As a future register nurse and as a woman I feel that a have a tremendous responsibility to give back to my community. I believe that one of the most forgotten populations in our community is the elderly, and as a society we have so much to learn from them and to thank them for what they did in the past. I strongly believe that if I could make some positive changes I would decide to do them to influence some senior citizens’ lives and to change their isolation for companion and thankfulness. I would advocate for the elderly with our authorities and I would request a budget to build a clinic to provide preventive health care services for them. I would designate a budget to build a nursing home for the elderly that do not have a place to…

Q1) I definitely agree with the author that the best way to address the needs of vulnerable populations it must come from a community oriented approach than a government and market oriented approach. They all play a role in addressing the many needs, but the community approach allows for the perspectives and interest of these individuals to be accounted for. It doesn’t make any sense to create any programs or policies that doesn’t meet what individuals feel and believe is the most important need. Not only that, but this approach has the least amount of power dimension, when it’s focused on trust and mutual communication.…
