Underrepresentation is exemplified by ethnic minorities such as, Latinos, Asian Americans and Native Americans, whom are all often ignored in mass media. However, if any of the above minorities are cast in any type of media, they are commonly put in negative roles, such as criminals or nonprofessionals (Tukachinsky, 2015). In fact, representations of Asian Americans and Native Americans are so rare, that hardly any generalizations can be made about either group (Mastro, 2015). From my experience, it is rare for ethnic minorities to be accurately represented within mass media and if they are, they are often positioned in stereotypical ways.
