We should assess the legacy of Columbus by celebrating and mourning on what he did. If Columbus didn’t discover America, we wouldn’t be populating the Americas as we speak. Columbus also brought Europeans to the Americas. He also did several other things such as promote wealth and prestige. He promoted curious thinking which revolutionized future generations and also he provided the sense of adventure throughout the Americas. He also started the ‘Age of Exploration’, everyone wanted land and the Americas had land. He also brought back ideas, items, and methods to Europe which is also known as the Columbian Exchange. In his speech, there was so much power it was incredible. His speech had a few main points mainly it was about black discrimination and how they aren't completely free even after Abraham Lincoln ended slavery. This speech can give you a sense of being open minded because of the perspective of the Negros that were free but not completely free. Even though, slavery was abolished, there were certain things black people couldn’t do such as vote and enter certain areas controlled by white people such as restaurants. This gave some hope to his supporters and something they can hold on to so they won’t start violence. He told his supporters to not go towards guns and violence because it'll just end in more war, and unnecessary death. He wants all black people to live in a nation where all of them will have equality and become completely free. During the speech, he says "I have a dream..." then he continues with several different "wishes" or "goals" that he wants completed. This speech is so remarkable because it has so much power and it impacted black people to have different perspective on equality. Initially, he begins his speech with the freedom of slaves that was made by Abraham Lincoln. He then says that even though black people are free, they aren't really completely free. Martin later says that Negros was given a check and then later says that …show more content…
Patrick Henry not only wanted liberty for himself but also for all the colonists. He wanted change around him just as much as he wanted to live given what he said towards the end of his speech. My reflection on this part is incredible that someone would rather die than not be completely free. He hopes to not disrespect anyone’s opinion as well because everyone sees things in different “lights”. Throughout his speech he pretty much went against the fact that Great Britain’s actions were only based on “love”. He said that Britain also treated us unequally, instead they acted friendly and we just believed in an illusion, they practically just used us. Patrick Henry’s powerful words can be summarized as telling the colonists that they should rise up against Great Britain and fight because they were treated unequally. He also says it’s normal for people to have hoped but really that they need to find out the truth and prepare for it instead of having an illusion of hope. My reflection on this is that too many people were trapped in an illusion back then by Britain. They taxed the colonists with several different acts from tea to printed documents had to be stamped to be published and also with the killing of 5 colonists from the guards in the event we know today as the “Boston Massacre”. He mentions during his speech that
