Company Purpose:
Under Armour was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank from the basement of his grandmother’s house in Washington, D.C. In 1995, Plank, a college football player, had noticed that the T-shirts that he and his teammates wore underneath their pads were always drenched with sweat after games and practices. Plank thought “there has to be something better,” and started designing a new athletic T-shirt that would stay light during exercise, even at the hottest temperatures. After some feedback and redesigning, Plank had a T-shirt made from microfibers that pulled moisture away from the body and kept athletes cool and dry. Plank made his first team sale to Georgia Tech at the end of 1996 and, after selling to several Division I college

They’re produced on the basis of gear lines and advertised to consumers who pursue an outdoor and active lifestyle. The three technical fabrics Under Armour specializes are: Heatgear®, Coldgear® and Allseasongear®. Heatgear® is designed for hot temperatures and specially made using microfiber blend fabric designed to wick moisture from the body which helps the body stay cool, dry and light. Coldgear® is aimed for cold weather this fabric provides both dryness and warmth. Lastly their Allseasongear® is for moderate temperatures, this gear uses technical fabrics to keep the wearer cool and dry. In addition to producing apparel the company has ventured out into the footwear industry. Their footwear ranges from football, baseball, lacrosse, and soccer cleats to running shoes and outdoor hunting shoes.
