Uncracked Egg Lab Report Free Falling Eggs

Improved Essays
Purpose This experiment was designed to keep a raw egg from breaking when dropped from a height of two meters. The structure that provides the longest duration of impact between the free falling egg and the ground will provide the wanted results of an uncracked egg.
Background
Previous knowledge acquired from Physics class about motion was applied to this project. Motion is the action of changing location or position. Impulse is the factor that will keep the egg from remaining undamaged. If bubble wrap and napkins are placed inside a container, then the egg will not crack when dropped from a height of two meters.
Materials

Napkins/tissues

It weighed 146.6 grams with the eggs. The egg ended up cracking slightly.
Calculations
Gravity equals 9.81 meters per second squared. The speed of the egg upon impact with the ground can be determined for the height of two meters. The egg was dropped from rest, so the initial velocity is zero. Final velocity squared equals initial velocity squared plus two times acceleration times delta distance, the final speed can be determined for the height of two meters.
Vf^2=vi^2+2a(delta x)
Vf^2=0m/s+2(2m)(9.81m/s^2)
Vf^2=39.24m^2s^2
Vf=6.26m/s

This was the most limiting because if the container was bigger, the egg would have a lesser chance of breaking or cracking. The most effective part of my design was the bubble wrap. It protected the egg as best as it could. I chose this part because bubble wrap is numerous small air cushions designed to protect fragile goods. If I were to take this challenge again, I would add more bubble wrap. Not having enough bubble wrap is what I believe caused it to crack. The napkins and tissues were not enough to cushion the bubble wrap and egg. In order to safely carry two raw eggs, I would need a slightly bigger container. The bigger container would have more bubble wrap to protect and support the two raw eggs. The wrap will cushion the eggs from the two meter fall.
Error Analysis The obvious error in this experiment is that my egg cracked enough that the yolk leaked out of it. There was not enough bubble wrap to protect the egg from breaking. There should have been more of the wrap on top of the egg. This would have prevented it from breaking.

In this experiment I attempted to created and study the affects of a egg in a hypertonic and hypotonic solution. To conduct this experiment I used the following materials: cups, eggs, vinegar, corn syrup, spoons and food coloring. To begin the experiment I placed three eggs in vinegar to dissolve their shells, leaving behind a thin membrane that allowed water to pass in and out of the eggs. The water molecules enter inside the eggs and the eggs begins to swell. Once the eggs have sat in the vinegar for two days I removed one from the vinegar, washed the eggs and placed it in the corn syrup.…

The data from Table 1.1 provides a measurement of how hard the Jell-O gets when fruit is not added and when different types of fruit are added: pineapples, mangoes and apples. The deeper the coin drops into the Jell-O, the less hardened the Jell-O is. The control, no fruit, hardened the most, which is shown in the table because the coin could not break the surface of the Jell-O, so it did not sink into the Jell-O at all. The coin sank into the Jell-O with the added pineapple. The coin dropped an average of 1.49 inches into the pineapple Jell-O, the most out of all of the averages.…

Once the egg was decalcified, it felt very fragile and bouncy. When the egg didn’t have a shell anymore, it was kept from seeping out by the “plasma membrane” (egg white), which was congealed by the soaking in vinegar. When the nucleus of the egg became visible, it looked very cloudy. The substance that entered/left the egg in each situation was water, due to the state of the egg, by way of osmosis, in a way of trying to balance the inside and outside the “cell” (egg), this balance is essential to functioning at the preferred isotonic state. This lab could be improved by using 2 different eggs, as the data seemed inaccurate when placing a hypotonic egg into a solution of corn syrup made the egg hypertonic, because there wasn’t a proper start weight in the egg when placed in the second solution.…

Procedures How was the experiment carried out to answer the problem? Day 1 - Determining Flight Factors On the first day we discussed as a class what variables could affect the flight path of the balloon. This list included anything from the placement of the balloon in the slingshot to an innocent bird flying by while the balloon is in the air. Each factor was then sorted into a category of either a control variable or an act of god.…

Method: In this experiment each group received 2 chicken eggs whose shells have been dissolved off. This gave us a differentially permeable membrane so that we can observe osmosis and what happens when the membrane is presented with different solutions. Since we did not know the concentration of the egg, we had to assume that it equaled the concentration of the membrane. We then had the ability to determine the concentration based off the assumption and the rate of osmosis.…

The egg would shrink in size and circumference if it is placed in syrup because water travels from areas of high concentration to areas with low concentration. This is also known as osmosis. The syrup has a lower concentration than the egg. This causes the water from the egg to travel out of its membrane. It would then flow into the syrup.…

Physics Lab Tutorial Homework Equilibrium of Rigid Bodies The main purpose of this tutorial is to understand how to take the information from the that is provided in the question and the picture that is provided, and use it to predict the motion of the board after it is released from rest and finding what is the angular acceleration of the board, while also finding the center of mass of the system. Finally, I would take all the information that I have in my answer and provide an explanation on how we got to the answer and explain about the net torque and net force if there is friction between the board and the pivot, while the board is on rest. Furthermore, I would explain why the board would remain in equilibrium. This question on mastering physics is related to Equilibrium in Rigid Bodies because in this problem, the description of a scenario was provided and the information needed to solve this problem was provided, which is a water falls of 31m…
