If COCOM Commanders do not
The United States has come a long way since the days of the American Revolution or either of the World Wars. Today war is all about airstrikes, drones, and the use of any other new technology in order to find a way to keep our troops at home and fighting conflicts without having “boots on the ground” as the saying goes. However even with, or perhaps because of, this new technology our country finds itself involved in conflicts that are unconventional to what we have seen in our history. The young generation of Americans today has grown up learning about the wars against terrorism where the enemy is hard to really signal out from a large crowd. We have become accustomed to fighting against what Max Boot calls “invisible armies” because it’s…
”11 Military engagements are a part of total US strategy, and total victory is not always necessary to achieve the desired strategic outcomes. The military remains a vital part of overall US national strategy, and should be carefully used to meet strategy objectives. Success or failure should be measured against the achievement of overall campaign objectives from a whole-of-government perspective concerning the current conflict. Success or failure should not be measured against World War II.…
Trench warfare was one of the deadliest ways of fighting World War I. One of the ways that trench warfare was so dangerous was chlorine gas. Chlorine gas caused great damage to the repertory system. If soldiers inhaled the gas it caused death by asphyxiation because their lungs filled with fluid and cause severe breathing problems. It would also cause intense irritation of the skin, the eyes, and the throat. The gas was soon contained into shells that were dropped directly into enemy trenches causing a higher death rate.…
Six years after 9/11, America is still engaged in the War on Terrorism. Politically support for the war has eroded both inside the country and by those countries who once lent their assistance. The United States is not well thought of due to othersí views of its international…
After its support for the Constitutional Convention and convinced many including Virginia legislature to vote for ratification, the new constitution was finally ratified by all thirteen states at the time. Grace is knowing when to leave, and Washington did left after two terms. He was the most deserving person ever to become president and he may have been the most unsuitable for the job, but his general revolutionary glory as a strategic militarist has made a skilled president. Event though the unprecedented gesture to go back to his farm in Mount Vernon after the war was ended, his fellow people have not stopped to be impressed by Washington’s choices. This decision electrified the world, but in respect for that period of time when everybody…
The American revolution and the Vietnam war were winnable wars by the conventional Armies. They were lost because of poor leadership, political restraints, no public support, and failure to see and recognize the fight and adopt to it. There were no clear strategy, they did not know the enemy and had rules of engagement that were controlled and dictated by politicians. The enemy had the upper hand, they decide the pace, where to fight, how long the fight, and the duration of the entire engagement.…
The United States has quickly started and joined military conflicts across the globe, often without truly evaluating the need or cost of the conflicts. A sad and major example of this was the justification of the invasion of Iraq. The Bush administration was adamant in its belief that Saddam Hussein was in possession…
The military is one of the largest organizations that utilizes the contingency approach because it's an efficient way to address problems. The book outlines one of the reasons to use the contingency approach is because "a particular management practice that worked today, may not work tomorrow"(Kinicki - Fugate 5). Based on my experiences in the United States Navy, I would say this reference sums up my entire Naval career. When you have that many people from different walks of life and serving around the world it isn't possible to manage using static approach to every problem. The benefits from using this tactics in my experience bring about successful missions, effective leadership, positive morale, organized plans, and growth in human/social…
MK ULTRA,was the CIA’s questionable project that took place in the 1950’s that involved dosing unknowing citizens with large amounts of LSD, mind control, and a murder possibly covered up by our government. There is much speculation as to what the real motives behind these experiments were, one side argues that our government was using MK ULTRA for the mind control of American citizens and that the project still exists under a different name. The other side argues that MK ULTRA was only being used as a way to find a truth serum for the benefit of the country. The argument of this research paper is that MK ULTRA was in fact created for the mind control of American citizens. “Mind sciences, or the study of human behavior in relation to the mind is the newest of all the arts, it is less than 100 years old and it is by far the most cloaked by secrecy”…
“It looks like they are using guerilla warfare again”! I heard a voice yell just before the room went black. We were spying on the Battle of La drang when the generators failed. In the battle of La drang Vietnam did not use their guerilla tactic and it caused them to lose the entire battle.(Tom valentine 2) “We need more gas for the generators.”…
Even though diseases and death are inevitable to control over a war zone, the conditions for the soldiers of World War One was to blame because amended conditions would have lowered the casualties and some soldier’s diaries express the same interest. Medicine, disease, and death are a crucial aspect of World War One. Trench Warfare and ships seemed to be the most impacted. Trench warfare is a form of combat in which opposing sides fight a few hundred yards away in trenches that face each other. Soldier’s living conditions in the trench were insufferable.…
Drone Warfare: The United States and their Aggressive Drone Policy in Afghanistan The United States has shifted its military strategies for taking out foreign enemies by reducing the number of boots they put on the ground and increasing the use of unmanned aerial vehicles referred to as drones. The use of drones is effective at sparing the number of U.S. soldiers and pilots being sent to deal with terrorist organizations (Grayson 2016). However it is ineffective in reducing the number of civilians that are killed or wounded through the use of these counterinsurgency strategies (Khalili 2012). This essay argues that the current U.S. drone policy in the country of Afghanistan is too aggressive and is doing more harm than good.…
There definitely have been some hot button issues as of late. The shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson Missouri has become well known as the “Ferguson Effect” and sparked protests all over the United States, which turned into riots causing much damage to those cities and injury to many people. This type of behavior has been known as breaches of the peace dating back to English law (Hall, 2014). Breaches of the peace are when a breakdown in social order occurs or peoples right to live peacefully are compromised (Hall, 2014). All over the United States there are now laws that prevent breaches of the peace (Hall, 2014).…
A girl by the name of Leslie Marmon Silko was born in Albuquerque in 1948. She was born in a time where violence was a huge factor in her life. In 2000, Leslie wrote an essay titled “In the Combat Zone”. She wrote this essay to let women know that the use of guns for self-defense not just against strangers, but also rapists and killers really is okay. All people, but mostly women, need to be able to defend themselves and not let anyone take advantage of them.…
Unconventional Warfare (UW) is considered the trademark of the U.S. Army Special Forces (SF). In fact, UW often serves as the focus for training, planning, and discussion within every aspect of the SF community. Most debates involving UW turn into an analysis of defining Unconventional Warfare and trying to figure out how to fit current SF operations into that definition. Special Forces prides itself on owning UW and serving as the Department of Defense’s subject matter experts on operating by, with, and through an indigenous force. The debate over Special Force’s ownership of this domain should not rely solely on the training, funding, or even doctrine that validates UW as a SF core task.…
