Whenever my brother in law calls my sister, her phone has a specific ringtone to it, she does not have strong feelings for the ringtone/song, but her husband loves it. When the song is played on the radio, she doesn’t have any strong reactions to it. The song is a neutral stimulus because it doesn't elicit any strong emotions from her. However, she loves talking to her husband and, every time she talks to him she smiles because she love him so much. Her husband is a Unconditioned stimulus because he elicits an automatic reaction from her. The reaction (smiling) is a unconditioned response. After a lot of phone calls from her husband coupled with a lot times hearing the song as her ringtone, she once again hears the song on the radio.

As students taking psychology at Hood College, we started to learn about the branches of conditioning. After learning about this we were then asked to observe 3 different commercials that were very peculiar because they seemed normal to the naked eye. But after analyzing it more closely we saw a few different types of conditions being present. The types of condition that were perceived were classical conditioning, operant conditioning and observational learning. To start off, classical conditioning is “A type of learning in which a neutral stimulus acquires the ability to evoke a response that was originally evoked by another stimulus.”…

Email may provoke neutrality effect or the negativity effects. Neutrality effect is when the recipient is when the recipient does not take the intended emotion into consideration hence that emotion becomes neutral. For instance, the sender may want the recipient to ‘hear' the enthusiasm in the message, but in the decoding process, the recipient does not ‘hear' that enthusiasm. On the other hand, negative effect refers to when what sender intends to be neutral is perceived as negative by the recipient. The effects of emotional inaccuracy due to the neutrality and negativity effects can lead to conflict escalation, confusion, and anxiety.…

My personal example of classical conditioning took place on a warm sunny summer day floating in a very relaxing pool. My boyfriend and I were floating around enjoying our summer break drinking Tequila out of oversized Yeti cups; mine was pink. It was all bubbles and butterflies at first, but when I got out of the pool and began to walk I soon discovered my cerebellum had been impaired. Minutes later I puked and passed out. The tequila was an unconditioned stimulus (UCS).…

This performance is from October in 2015. Personally I liked the piece, but it could use a little more help. While they have good points in the piece they also had some low points. The basses had a good deep and dark sound like you want for many of our male singers to achieve. Their vowels were outstanding just like they always are.…

A classic princess story, Cinderella remains to be one of Disney’s most popular movies. However, what is disturbing is the manner in which this movie imposes gender roles by depicting women in a negative manner. This film seems to be reinforcing the notion that women are weaklings and that the only way in which any society can survive is by upholding male dominance and embracing female submissiveness. The movie begins by showing Cinderella living happily with her parents in a faraway kingdom.…

OutKast, a popular rap group throughout the nineties and early 2000s, has a renowned song entitled “Hey Ya!” which features the smooth flows of Andre 3000 and hard hitting rhymes of Big Boi. The song has been a huge hit for years and is virtually known by every American under the age of thirty. When the song was released in 2003, I was just three years old, but had already adopted my dad’s love for music and I frequented the kitchen tile as my dance floor whenever music was playing. OutKast’s song “Hey Ya!” holds a different weight than most other songs I grew up around because it is one of few memories I remember vividly about my childhood.…

Classical and Operant Conditioning Name Institutional Affiliation Classical and Operant Conditioning Classical and operant conditioning are two significant concepts essential to behavioural psychology. Classical conditioning was studied by Ivan Pavlov and it involves pairing a previously neutral stimulus with an unconditioned stimulus. The unconditioned stimulus triggers a response naturally and automatically. In classical conditioning, learning refers to involuntary responses that result from experiences that occur before a response. Classical conditioning supports the idea that people develop responses to certain stimuli that are not naturally occurring (Lilienfeld, 2011, p. 204).…

A Russian physiologist named Ivan Pavlov discovered classical conditioning.…
