Many parents come near to reaching Miriam’s mark, but don’t fulfill enough of the guidelines to do so. One example is the baby’s parents, John and Pumla. In Tsotsi, it’s shown that they take care of the baby, have unconditional love for him, provide for him, make an honest living, and have an emotional connection with him. Therefore, they fulfill five out of the seven guidelines. This can be seen throughout the movie. For example, in the final scene when Tsotsi has given back the baby, a medium close-up shot of Pumla with a smile on her face and close to tears, with a normal angle, and the stirring violin and vocals of the soundtrack playing, reveal the strong amount of love she felt for her child. …show more content…
The baby’s beautifully decorated room also shows that the baby was very well cared for. Another parent is Tsotsi. Tsotsi had unconditional love for the baby, taught it and showed it things, and had an emotional connection with it. The relationship he had with the baby, and the love he felt for it, are revealed throughout Tsotsi. For example, Tsotsi’s reply to Miriam while she’s breastfeeding the baby: “What is your name little one? How should I call you?” “David. His name is David.”. By naming the baby after himself, Tsotsi exposes the emotional connection he feels with it. Overall, Tsotsi accomplishes three of the guidelines. However, there are still
