1. What is one specific insight or discovery you gleaned from this reading?
Defining idols brought me to remember a theme of one of my favorite books. Uncompromising: A Heart Claimed by a Radical Love by Hannah Farver speaks to young women about all of the causes, or idols, in life that we may deem worth our time and efforts. Too much of my life was spent wishing I had a boyfriend or worrying what my friends thought of me. God was put on the back burner to vanity and popularity. This would only make me frustrated, and I never quite understood that the desires of my flesh wouldn't fit into the space God had made specifically for him in my life. God created within me a lust for a cause, but not just any cause I desire- the cause. I became acutely aware of all the causes and idols I had made top priority in my life. The lesson was reiterated in chapter three of Worship on Earth as it is in Heaven and it reminded me of my life-long mission to put Christ first and seek him in everything I do. In your opinion, what are the most common examples of modern day idolatry?
There are different causes, or idols, that we as women might try and fill the hole only Christ was meant to fit into. Examples of these causes are beauty, fame, romance, and talents. I agree with these and would even say that they could apply to men as well. Much of what you find in today's modern world can fall into one of these four categories. We put these things on pedestals and hold them at a higher esteem than we do our Creator.
