Uncle Willie has a very distinct look. Uncle Willie is a disabled person. He sits like a giant black “z” and, he was also crippled as a child. He has a small left hand and an overgrown right hand. I think he feels bad about himself sometimes because in a way he isn’t normal. Also that he feels good about himself because in a way he embraces that he is different. I also think that he thinks about what other people think about him. For example in the book when he talks to someone that walks in the store he is lean up against shelves and resting to make himself look normal. His personality is kind of a strict one. He always wants to keep Maya and Bailey in line. Like in the book when they talk back or do something wrong. He would take them to the pot-bellied stove. What Maya say about Uncle Willie, Maya talks about how he owns the only negro store in Stamps. Also, Maya describes his appearance very way. Maya also says about how he was strict with them and how he was teaching them and keeping them in line so they could be respectful children.
