Tom approaches a little girl, Miss Eva, and questions her what’s her name. The two started engaging in a conversation. Shortly afterwards Miss Eva tells Uncle Tom that she likes him. An example how the author intended to communicate to the readers that some slaves weren’t the stereotypical form of being a slave was by including the part where Tom saved Miss Eva. Since Tom saved Eva it demonstrated that not all slaves were the stereotype of being helpless or self-centered. Because Tom was heroic it illustrated that some slaves were caring and friendly when it came to others no matter the skin color. Categorizing someone as a slave was useless because judging someone by their skin color shouldn’t matter it’s by the actions whether someone should be judged.
