Have you ever heard of the term “Uncle Sam”? Well if you haven’t, he is NOT real. He was actually America’s sign during World War 1. He was a big factor in World War 1.If we did not have him we might have lost the war. Here are a few reasons why.
How did Uncle Sam become a famous symbol of America?
On September 07,1813 the U.S.A was given their nickname, Uncle Sam.The man who invented him was Samuel Wilson, a meat packer from Troy, New York. He supplied meat to the U.S army. He packed them in barrels and stamped on them U.S. for United States.Then the soldiers started referring to the meat as “Uncle Sam's”. The local newspaper heard about the story and started to spread the word about him. It eventually reached widespread acceptance in the late 1860’s. Arguably,the best picture of uncle Sam was by James Montgomery Flagg.It this picture, it was him with a long white beard, a top hat and a stars and stripes suit.He is saying “I want you for the U.S Army nearest recruiting station”. Uncle Sam did a very good job, because over 300,000 Americans between the ages of 18 and 31 were enlisted into the military. Sadly, nearly 100,000 of them got killed. However, we did win the war.

People always have the question in there head, or at least I do, what happened to Uncle Sam after WW1? .People think that we didn’t use him after WW1, but they're wrong. He was discovered during WW1 but that doesn’t mean we did not use him after. Nothing happened to him.We have used him from WW1 all the way up to now,and we will continue to use him.We will never stop using him and people will always listen to him because he shows every body who’s boss.
