“Be strong. Live honorably and with dignity. When you don’t think you can hold on.”(James Frey). In the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie faces many obstacles that he overcomes. Louie had a rough start to his life. At a young age, Louie was drinking and smoking, but he got better when he started training with his brother Pete for the Olympics. Louie went back downhill again when he went to war. He suffered as a POW in the war. Louie thought almost for sure he was not going to make it. After Louie came home from the war he met the love of his life, Cynthia. During the war, Louie Zamperini, suffered terribly as a POW, so Hillenbrand reveals how his dignity gets stronger when he returns home after the war. Louie suffered as a kid as well as when he was in the war as a POW. Louie smoked and drank as a young child. His life changed around when him and his brother, Pete started training for the Olympics. Louie was one of the best runners. His dignity within himself was night and day compared to a couple months before, but things turned back around and not for the good. Louie became a POW in the war. He suffered day and night from being beaten almost to death for many days. When Louie returns home after being a POW in the war he meets the love of his life, Cynthia. Then soon after they get married and Louie becomes a Christian. It was hard but Louie stayed strong and regained his dignity and started to live a happier life. In the case of Louie Zamperini, his feeling of suffer from the POW camp, Louie fully recovered and regained his dignity that he had before is life went on a downhill
