Unbroken is the biography of Louis Zamperini, a former track star, how he had survived a plane crash, and spent 47 days drifting on a raft. Louis then spent more than 2 and a half years as a Prisoner of War, also known as a POW. Louis Zamperini was born on January 26, 1917.

Pete was Louie’s older brother. Pete influenced Louie to run. Louie broke records after records. Louis went to the 1936 Olympic Games trials. He won the race. At the actual Olympics Louie didn't win. He aimed to win gold in the 1940 Olympics in Tokyo, later Tokyo withdrew from hosting the Olympics. By then Louis then wanted to work in the Air Force. Louis, Mac, and Phil made it to two rafts. They drifted a sea for 47 days living off of whatever they could find. Mac died on day 34. Finally, Louie and Phil drifted all the way to an island. They were fed and then sent to a camp. The Japanese treated them so badly and gave them little food. Louis got moved to many POW camps. He prayed and did anything to survive, including stealing. Finally, on August 26 the POWs were free at last.

In the book Unbroken, I chose chapter Thirst (Page 112). This chapter is relevant to this world because Louie, Phil, and Mac are creative. They think of different ways to catch food. They caught a bird and used it as bait. Louie put it on a hook and he caught a fish. It was their first food in days on the raft. This new method to catch food helped them further in their journey. Today, people use many different ways to solve problems. People can even use such little things, like birds to catch food too.

I learned that the 1940s was a challenging year for people in United States especially with World War ll and the Bombing of Pearl Harbour. I also learned about the life of a POW and how it was hard for them. POWs would do anything for food. Besides the war, I learned about Louis Zamperini, and his running career which ended. Other people can use the information in the book to learn more about, POWs, Louis Zamperini, or World War ll. The person or yourself can use it for a report if they wanted

American philosopher David Cottrell once said, “Doing the right thing isn't always easy, in fact, sometimes it's real hard, but just remember that doing the right thing is always right.” For approximately twenty-eight months, Louis Zamperini, a prisoner of war, was victimized in as many barbaric ways as possible. Deranged Japanese guards, especially “the Bird”, made certain that Zamperini suffered from not just malnutrition, exposure, and grim conditions but also excessive physical and psychological torment. Yet for a brief period, according to Andrews’s article "8 Things You May Not Know About Louis Zamperini," Zamperini was taken to Radio Tokyo and was asked to read propaganda messages over the air in efforts to belittle the United States…

In the words of Gail Devers, “Sometimes we fall, sometimes we stumble, but we can't stay down. We can’t allow life to beat us down. Everything happens for a reason, and it builds character in us, and it tells us what we are about and how strong we really are when we didn’t think we could be that strong.” In the nonfictional, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie Zamperini, being the clever man he is, demonstrates Dever’s words though the 36’ Olympics, a treacherous trek in the Pacific, and in many Japanese POW camps. In his early days in Berlin, Louie already began expressing his mischievous cleverness.…

Reading Lord of the Flies I could see the appeal of the readers following the Second World War In my first short answer essay I discussed nature versus nurture. Men and women that came home from the war may have come home physically but many did not come home mentally. This book could have helped open doors to the darker side of being faced with the brutality of the war. Individuals are taught how to act and behave, however, in wartimes there is no solid division between acting proper and acting out of survival.…
