The Hit and Run UIC Wind Ensemble was conducted by Jose Oliver Riojas and performed by the students of UIC Wind Ensemble along with the performance of marimba and percussion by Jordan Kamps, Peter Ferry, and Chris Sies. The performance took place at the UIC Theatre, which was located on 1044 W Harrison St. The show was on Thursday, March second, 2017 at 7:30 PM. The theatre was very crowed with many older adults who came to support their families and friends’ performance. There was not enough seat, so many students who came to the show had to sit on the stair. It was unexpected to witness many people who came to the performance since most people often would go to famous artist concerts instead. The room was empty silent as the audience was …show more content…
Jordan Kamps especially performed the highlight marimba section of this piece. It was an eye opening to see him used two sticks in each hand to play the marimba. In fact, the piece serves as a contrast to the two previous pieces due the fact that it was more exciting and less dramatic. The solo marimba section was extremely stand out and made the piece became alive. At first, the solo marimba section was calm, and it got faster and louder. The staccato notes also made he piece became more thrilling and amusing just like when you watching Tom and Jerry. The drum part also made the song more excited and dramatic with many alterations in tempo and dynamic. As the piece came to an end, the music actually got louder, faster, and was more dramatic with the performance of the drums. Eventually, the piece ended with an alarm sound. It was an excellent way to particularly end the piece this way because it seems like the whole performance was just a dream just like the name of the piece, and we are finally waking up from a beautiful …show more content…
Then, the orchestra started out strong and loud. Basically, percussion trio and the orchestra performed interchangeably and in unison. The percussion trio also played a variety of instruments, and there was a lots going on in this piece. This is my favorite piece because the percussion trio got to show off their skills and teamwork effort. This piece was also delightful and the audience in awe with the excellent performance of the percussion trio. Eventually, the show ended with Asphalt Cocktail that was composed by John Mackey. This piece started out strong and louder. However, it got quieter and got loud again along with the slamming of the trash can up and down. The finally came to an end with triumphant and aggressive

On Friday, July 10th, the local instrumental jazz group Yuma Jazz Company played at Lutes Casino for a couple of hours. The instrumentation was fairly standard for a jazz group, with trumpet, saxophone, guitar, double bass, and drums (I believe those were electric). The guitar and bass, along with the drums, served as a sort of basso continuo, generally backing the horns, but occasionally taking up the melody for themselves, resulting in a texture that was thinly polyphonic. Also noticeable was the “fabulous light up tip jar,” a colorful accompaniment to their music. The concert ran from 7 to 9 PM, so I went in not only with the intention of listening to the group but also with a good meal in mind.…

Moreover, since it was a solo performance, there was no communication among performers. Even though I could not see the performer because he was hide behind the organ, I could feel that I was putting a lot of energy in this piece to make it dramtic. Just by the way he would hit the peddles it resound in the Hall. The musical composition I liked the least was Prélude et fugue en mi mineur composed by Johann Sebastian Bach.…

As the school year progresses, Thomas Jefferson's extra curricular programs continue to display their hard work for the students enjoyment. During the boys’ basketball game on January 4th, against Westminster High School, TJ’s drumline did just that, bringing the audience musical enjoyment in an unconventional way: by using buckets. After months of continuous practice, the drumline, led by band teacher Robin Johnson, was ready to perform a few songs as a halftime show. In preparation for events like this, “Students work on rudiments (rhythmic patterns), interpreting written music, as well as improvising and arranging their own music,” explained Johnson.…

This piece was had more energetic vibe than some of the other pieces with slightly louder sound over all and its use of crescendos that brought a sound of power to the ensemble. Another interesting thing I heard in this song was the use of slight dissonance between the trumpets on some of their chords. This gave a wild feel to the song, but it still maintained its smooth demeanor. The trumpet solo in this song was also impressive. The soloist had nice tone and his note accuracy was fairly good, but one of the only problem I had with the solo was that it was a little hard to hear at times.…

“No Place Like London,” Act 1, scene 1 from Sweeney Todd by Stephen Sondheim The orchestra enters with a full and resonant timbre, sounding the melodic theme “No place like London,” twice. The second echo ends on a peculiar chord, unresolved. The first soloist’s timbre is bright, energetic and full of hope, in contrast to the second soloist’s timbre that is dark.…

With the third movement called scherzo, I did not enjoy as much as the others because it was very slow and sad however, the clarinets did do a very good job in the piece. When I close my eyes during this piece I see white baby swans swimming very gracefully and then slowly but deliberately a huge black hole begins to form in the water and the swans are trying to get away from being sucked in. That is the part of the music piece when it accelerates up very fast and…

First and foremost, McJagger's voice strikes me at the end of the song. It's comical how he can create an authentic McJaccer monkey esque noise. The guitar rift is fun, I can see how people can groove to this. The guitar solo reinforces that feeling. More over, the whammy bar resonating adds a nice touch.…

Unoccupied stage occupied with only percussion instruments inside of Ford Hall. A sea of people continues to fill the vacant chairs surrounding me inside of this vast auditorium to hear the Ithaca College percussion ensemble. The audience gives the impression that this hall is being filled by music major’s and families just eager to support their loved ones spilling out with joy. I was so surprised that there were so many young audience members that were not music majors that had just come to hear the percussion concert. Though out the performance you can witness that the audience is so intently listening almost as if nothing could ever break their focus but the conclusion of the music.…

The instruments are all moving quickly and playing different and conflicting parts all over one another, which creates an interesting and energetic sound. I liked having this energetic and lively section towards the end of the piece. It created anticipation and excitement while listening, while also revisiting some of the initial musical sections from the first movement. I thought that the revisiting of initial musical pieces tied the whole thing together, by showing the connection through the first and last movements. I thought it was interesting that this movement ended with a downbeat, as it initially started with an…
