As a first-generation student to attend college, I am very excited to attend a school in the city that I grew up in. Surrounded by major hospitals, UIC’s location sets the foundation for great research and internship opportunities for students such as myself, interested in the medical field. I am passionate about being socially involved around campus and in support of my community. Therefore, I would greatly take advantage of the clubs offered. The UIC Cultural Experience greatly captures my attention, specifically the Latino cultural center and Women 2 Women which offer a great advantage to participate in political and social engagements. However, due to the fact that Loyola University Chicago was offering me a great deal of financial assistance I attended there. Unfortunately, due to severe financial hardship it became necessary for me to leave after a year. Because I refused to fall behind, I continued with my education at Joliet Junior College where I persistently moved forward taking classes toward my biology degree. While attending, I was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. I also gained skills by working as a certified nursing assistant at an assisted living center to acquire additional experience.
Because I will have already taken the maximum amount of classes offered for a biology pre-med major by the fall of 2017, I wish to continue my studies elsewhere. UIC would best suit me in the path to success because of its strong pre-medical program. I strongly believe UIC will provide opportunities for a great undergraduate experience while academically preparing me for its graduate school. Consequently, UIC is the premium choice for me to pursue my bachelor’s in biology not only providing me with the resources to become a successful person career-wise, and also as a well-rounded
