Uglies Scott Westerfeld Quotes

Decent Essays
In Uglies, by Scott Westerfeld, the theme is respect because you have to respect people's opinions even If you don't agree with it. On page 392-393 389, in the book Uglies, Maddy, David's Mother, is talking to Tally about giving Shay pills. "Yeah right. That's what Tally keeps telling me. But you don't understand. "Maddy shook her head. 'Only if she wants to be cured. These are experimental, Tally. We can't give them to someone against their will.' (It is difficult to understand what is going on in this quote. More introduction is needed.) It proves the point because Maddy respects Shay's opinion about not risking to get harmed. even though Shay doesn't believe Maddy, Maddy still has to respect Shay's opinions and Shay has to respect Maddy's opinions to be respectful to each …show more content…
(Who is Maddy? You say they have to respect each other, but it is not clear from the quote if they are showing respect.) Scott Westerfeld also wrote about Shay, Tally's best friend. (run on) Shay trusts Tally with a big secret that she eventually tells when she asks, "You're not going to tell anyone about this, right?" When Shay asks Tally this question if she will keep the secret quiet, she is trusting (Trust is a different theme. Stay focused on respect.) that she won't have to worry about word getting out. Tally has to respect that promise she made. (The theme in the topic sentence focuses on respecting other people's opinions. Respecting promises seems like a different topic.) (This quote is lacking an introduction.)"Of course. They were crazy. They almost destroyed the world." (Yes, this is an opinion, but it is not an example of respect, which is your theme. It seems to be the opposite of respect.) This is David's opinion (they were crazy) because it isn't a fact that they are crazy but it's highly likely they are and everybody

Individuals may choose their own paths in life, but cannot create them. In Mordecai Richler’s novel The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, the inherent and systematic adversity which those not privileged enough to be born at the top of social ladder in society must face to achieve success becomes clear. Duddy Kravitz, the central character in the story is determined to break out of a cycle of poverty and become a “somebody” to the world, but in doing so must sacrifice all morals and ethics along the way. Richler suggests that the capacity for one in Canada during the 1950’s to achieve success is defined not by a person’s talent or potential, but rather social standing and ethnicity. In reality, the “Canadian dream” message that Canadians love…

I think that the campers gained more from the experience at Camp Wiggen than Ron Jones did. I think this because all their life, they had been seen as kids with disorders, and they never got to experience being a part of something that most people would think they coyld not do. Camp Wiggen gave them the chance to do that, and they were treated like normal kids and not kids who were dying. A quote to show their experience is “These kids had never been news. Most had been family secrets.…
