Staying focused in class and working late hours to complete schoolwork proved to be increasingly difficult as I saw the world in double and my eyes would get extremely stressed. Halfway into freshman year, I started vision therapy sessions in an attempt to control and improve my eye problems. In spite of my grades taking a hit and having difficulty managing my schedule between school, extracurriculars, and vision therapy, I made a conscious choice to continue taking challenging courses. Although I was urged to take easier classes and take a break from debate and music, pursuing my interests both inside and outside the classroom have truly enabled me to become a more curious and motivated student. I am happy to report that although I still do have both amblyopia and diplopia, vision therapy has considerably improved my eye’s condition and my ability to be more proactive both inside and outside school. Moreover, I hope continue my debate career on the intercollegiate level at UC

At last count, both Google and Apple were fast approaching the million app mark with the Google Play Store and the iTunes App Stores. Both vendors predict that they will cross this mark sometime in 2013. Microsoft is currently way behind, but with over 150,000 apps already available through Windows Phone Store, and with a good response on Windows Phone 8, it’s reasonable to expect that the giant from Redmond will not allow itself to stay far back. But this is not really just about mobile devices.…

It helped provide food for thousands and was a home for many, but the Bureau of Reclamation took it all away when they ordered the construction of the Friant Dam. The Dam wasn’t created to destroy life, but to give life. It helped southern Californians get the water they needed by diverting the river into an aqueduct and sending it south. But what many didn’t predict was the mass die off of many fish that once lived in the San Joaquin.…

In a guided self-assessment of study habits and strategies, ED 3100 students have been challenged to embark on a journey of self-exploration in an effort to better understand our own learning processes, as well as determine how different methods of studying and learning may affect our overall success. Dr. Demars (2015) explains that exploration and knowledge of our own techniques and learning strategies will then empower us, as future educators, to facilitate the same attributes in our students. She emphasizes that the better we (as teachers) understand our own learning processes, the better we can understand those of our students, and consequently help them self-assess to achieve a better understanding of their own learning. Although this exploration has raised many questions for me, there were key themes that stood out amongst others. By constructing an unbiased system of measurement, I am experimenting with deliberate and strategic changes to my study habits that are explicitly designed to address and correct weaknesses in my current study habits that I will track over a period of four weeks.…

My level of concern about privacy when it comes to my location and whereabouts would rank as a 7 for me on a scale of 1 to 10. I am uncomfortable with my location being tracked, but I do not think that the people with access to it would use it maliciously. I assume that the people who could possibly have access to this information would be my cell service provider and the makers of apps on my phone. I think that apps should be allowed to use this information if it provides for a better experience, such as using google maps to get accurate directions. However, I would like to block most apps and my service provider from accessing my location.…

I began my educational journey at Georgia State University as an enthusiastic pre-medicine major with a very unrealistic goal of taking on the world. I told myself I would sacrifice anything to become a doctor, including accepting the possibility of never having children due to how hard it would be for me to spend quality time with them. I constantly worried about the finances required for my education, if my parents had the necessary funds to pay their bills, and much more. As far as my academic performance, I was never satisfied with my science grade point average. I felt inferior to my classmates who seemed to absorb and comprehend information at a faster rate in comparison to me.…

When I was a child and others would ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up”, my answer had always remained the same.
