Uber is one of the nation’s largest companies operating in the transportation industry. Uber utilizes the technological advancements offered today to connect with their customers. A customer of Uber can log in to their Uber app and request a ride to and from any location. However, this successful company has not experienced an operation without environmental factors affecting their strategy. One major environmental factor is their critic’s societal values on the amount of traffic congestion Uber causes. Societal values are the beliefs and concepts that people within a society feel strongly about (Parnell, 2014). Many of Uber’s critics believe that the company is responsible for the increased traffic congestion and the increased pollution in the air. Uber has experienced many scandals in the past year that has forced the company to change their strategic policies. The new CEO of Uber expresses how the company is collecting data from outside sources to determine how they should change their internal strategy (Steinmetz, 2017). Recently, Uber has experienced a CEO change, a sexual allegation charge, a racial profiling charge, and an employee using excessive force verbally with a customer. The primary reason for a strategic change internally for Uber is due to Uber’s human resource department and employee engagement team.
