1. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time. My sophomore year, I was placed into a group of four other kids for my Spanish class. I saw these kids as lacking confidence and motivation to do good in school. In my eyes they were the class clowns. I’ve always cared about my grades, so I was initially upset; however, I got myself together and told myself I would lead them to an A for this project. As they fooled around, I would redirect their attention in order to tell them what was going on and who would be doing what in the group. I not only was giving orders, but I would be there for them if they needed help. I led this group and I believed that they would succeed. When I had received the letter, I knew I had to take this opportunity although it would be challenging. I pulled myself together to sign up. I had begged my mom to help me finish the paperwork as soon as possible and on the second day of receiving the packet to fill out, I asked my science teacher and counselor for letters of recommendation. I had spent so much time attempting to perfect my application, in which I was able to succeed. I had turned in a perfectly filled out application with a proper letter and two great recommendations. When the news finally came around of who had been accepted for the scholarship, my name was not mentioned. I had felt broken and upset, but I knew that more opportunities would come around with time.
