With the naval code America was able to anticipate a surprise attack. The U.S. Naval forces were able to recognized the attack against the Alaska Islands and were able to mass the Japanese forces around Midway. On June 4, an advance Japanese squadron numbering more than 100 bombers and Zero fighters took off from the Japanese carriers to bomb Midway. In the meantime, 200 miles to the northeast, two U.S. attack fleets caught the Japanese force entirely by surprise.…
The Kokoda Campaign is one of the most famous and well-known battles faced by the Australian soldiers in World War II. The battle continued over a four month period thought New Guinea and surrounding islands. The main purpose of the campaign from the Australian side was to protect New Guinea from the Japanese whose plan was to invade and claim their land as their own. This is known to be one of the bloodiest campaigns of the World War with the trail being extremely narrow and no where to hide and be protected. It has left a strong, unbreakable bond between New Guinea and Australia which will continue throughout both of the countries history.…

The aim of the campaign was to prevent a Japanese invasion of Port Moresby that would provide them will almost direct access to attack and invade the North and East coast of Australia security. After the Fall of Singapore to the Japanese on the February 15th 1942, a major British base in the Pacific region was lost. They then moved onto the Indonesian islands, forcing thousands of Allied troops to surrender. The Japanese then took other islands in the Pacific, however they did not invade Australia.…

The Japanese also attacked Guam, Davao, and Camp John Hay. The air attacks came in two waves, the first one came in at 7:53 AM and the second one came in at 8:55 AM.…
a whole naval task force, 360 planes, six aircraft carriers that launched this attack. Whereas in 9/11, it was a nongovernment-sponsored attack, involving 19 people with four aircraft.” ( Wichita State University, Kleinsasser ). This explanation shows how the Japanese used their own aircraft to attack Pearl Harbor.…
That also helped stabilize the economy because the government was paying the factories to make tanks, air craft, and weapons instead of whatever they were originally making. Everyone that could work was out working and making money. Although World War Two was a great tragedy it affected America immensely; It brought the country closer together, stabilized the economy, and opened doors for women in the workforce. Just before 8 a.m. on December 7, 1941, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes attacked the American naval base at Pearl Harbor near Honolulu, Hawaii. The attack lasted just two hours, but it was devastating:…
Introduction The attack on Pearl Harbor was a very significant event which took place during the second world war. It was a surprise attack orchestrated by the Imperial Japanese navy, devastating the U.S. on December 7th, 1941. There were two waves of planes, the first one arriving at exactly 7:53 AM, the second one arriving at 8:55. This obviously influenced how the war ended, because they caused the U.S. to retaliate. There are several reasons as to what caused Japan to attack the Pearl Harbor naval base located Hawaii.…
FDR AND PEARL HARBOR On December 7, 1941, a date which will live in infamy, the United States of America was abruptly and purposely attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan at around 8 in the morning. In 1942, there was a strong belief that a threat could occur, hence the evacuation of females and children from Darwin during 1941, this was throughout the government and public, and due to previous attacks, reserve armies were being formed and deported2 above, one of these to the island 500km North-east of Australia, to New Guinea. Newspaper headlines such as Border Morning Mail’s ‘Australia Ready to Meet Japanese Attack,’ (Oct. 1941), spreads the idea and acknowledgment of a possible invasion across the whole of Australia and also comments that the Australian government was preparing in case of an attack. Even the soldiers were aware of the importance of the battle of Kokoda for the Australian population as Jack Manol, (1998), says ‘I thought: Christ, there’s no-one between us and Moresby, and if the Japs(Japanese) get through us and get to Moresby there, Australia’s gone.’ This is evidence that the threat was so obvious and present that soldiers away from the mainland were aware of the threat and felt the pressure and need to protect their country. The ill-trained Australian soldiers fought extremely hard, and despite all odds, the Japanese, who largely outnumber Australians (1:5), retreated along the ~96km track through the Stanley Range after a four-month campaign, which…
This attack was by 353 Japanese fighter planes, bombers, and torpedo planes, this happened two different times and was also launched from six aircraft carriers. All eight U.S. Navy battleships were damaged, with four being…
On the morning of February 19, 1942, citizens of Darwin heard the sounds of planes circling overhead, they were not fazed by this, the citizens went on with their daily lives thinking it was just the Americans but after the first bomb was dropped onto the harbor, citizens of Darwin knew it was the start of a ferocious war on Australian home soil quotes a witness from the bombing of Darwin. The Japanese did not deliberately arrange for this war to begin, yet after the Japanese attacked Timor, they knew Australia would send aid so they proceeded to attack Darwin's harbor (Northern Region of Australia) and knowing that the US destroyer Peary was parked in the port, the Japanese didn’t hesitate to proceed into war. The impact of World War II had…
It was an average, hot day in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Home to the Japanese army’s Second General Headquarters, yet also home to 280,000 civilians, 43,000 military personnel, and 20,000 Korean forced laborers (Gray, Paul, and Kunii). Everything had been running accordingly, adults going to their jobs, school children assisting in the cleaning of the streets, until they saw a foreign object, hurling at them at a fast speed. It exploded before anyone had the chance to choke out the work ‘bomb’, leaving the menace behind the death trap, President Truman,a villain to Japan. The Japanese had attacked multiple places before the bombing occurred, including cities such as Shanghai, Manchuria, and most famously, Pearl Harbor.…
