The USS Midway, One of the longest serving aircraft carriers in the United States Army, needed module changes in order to remain in battle and still be an unsinkable ship. The USS Midway, the lead ship of her class, had a lot of changes in its design because of all the years that it was in battle’s, like the Vietnam war, operation frequent wind and the Persian Gulf. It needed better technology to go to more places and to remain in battle with her class. The USS Midway had 2 huge module changes which was the axial deck design and an angled deck design.

They changed the hydraulic catapult and fit two steam catapult. Steam goes into the cylinders and pushes the pistons and pushes and then the aircraft gets pushed and ready to take off as an assist lift off, faster and for a longer distance. Steam catapult had a massive change in battle since it could release more aircraft’s and go way faster to its destination. The ship changed its basic electronics to advanced sensors and communication equipment. They had also installed the largest aviation crane in its time. The aircraft speed and duration made innovations and got a mirror landing system.
The USS Midway made its last battle and was decommissioned on August 1991 at the Naval Air Station. In preparation to be a museum on the waterfront, in the heart of San Diego. The USS Midway final mission is a “Tour of Duty” with a collection of aircrafts. The USS Midway is now for education and for entertainment. Military veterans help out with the tours showing the facts of the war. The USS Midway served its country for 47 years, and has been in many battles even though it was made to be in world war II. The builders of this fabulous ship was the “Newport News Shipbuilding”. The USS Midway has sailed In every ocean in the whole world and has covered a lot of miles of ocean.
