USS Arizona's Attack On Pearl Harbor

On Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese warplanes attacked unexpectedly on the home base of the U.S. Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, bringing the United States into World War II. Over 2,300 Americans were killed. The attack in Hawaii was apparently launched by “torpedo-carrying bombers and submarines”, causing damage and death over the islands. Over half of the deaths at Pearl Harbor occurred on the battleship USS Arizona. The USS Arizona was hit four times by Japanese bombers and sunk to the bottom of the harbor. The Arizona had a full tank, nearly 1.5 million gallons, and the ship is continuing to leak the fuel. Scientists are worried about contaminating the water, and they do not know how long it will continue to leak. A total of 8 battleships
