USO Research Essay

The USO’s mission is to “strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.” (USO) Previously mentioned, was there are over 160 locations for the USO. These locations are at or near military installations. These locations are even in combat zones, some combat zones that are too dangerous for civilians are unstaffed, but are there for the soldiers to use. The part that struck me the most is the USO airport centers. These airport centers accommodate service members and their families 24 hours a day, all year long. They do not shut down. I find this truly amazing, I cannot explain why, but just something about this organization being at airports to help the military and their families is comforting. Travelling can be stressful, especially if a person is waiting for the soldier to return home. Contributing money is most often the first answer, an answer that can go without saying most often than not. Organizations usually do not turn down financial contributions. However, there are other ways of contributing other than donating money. There is always donating time, volunteering with the USO. Participating in a fundraiser or hosting a fundraiser is also a good way of donating time. Fundraisers have to be according to the USO guidelines, so anyone that wants to host a fundraiser should probably get the guidelines first. All of the information can be found on the United Service Organizations website. Also, items can be bought, but there are stipulations to that as well. “The USO can only accept items that are purchased directly from or donated by the manufacturer.” (USO) There are many different ways to utilize the USO to help the military men and woman as well as their
