U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are a vital part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). One of the major tools that agencies have between departments across all levels of law enforcement is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). These documents contain concepts of mutual understanding, goals, plans, responsibilities, and actions for each party that is involved.
For example, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) established partnerships with the help from the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 added Section 287(g). In turn, this allows the Director of ICE to enter agreements with SLTT law enforcement agencies. Through this, designated officers can be authorized to perform immigration law enforcement by participating and completing the appropriate training.

Agents at the center also placed 4,915 detainers on aliens suspected of immigration violations, managed more than 283,900 National Crime Information Center system records of Criminal Warrants generated by ICE. Law Enforcement Specialists and Deportation Officers at the center confirmed 4,035 National Crime Information Center matches, and Law Enforcement Specialists and Deportation Officers at the center responded to over 112,000 calls from law enforcement officers. These are just some figures that show how relationships across agencies of law enforcement can help impact our effort in securing and protecting our homeland. It takes a jointed effort to be able to properly and efficiently met the goals set out by DHS. Important to point out that LESC is not strictly a product from ICE, it is a part of DHS’s information sharing
