We have also implemented a growth strategy for UNLV and, as a key component of that, have asked deans to propose to us any growth to existing programs and/or launch of new programs—online and on campus—for which there is demand, that we can grow with quality, that we can manage in a way that maximizes the funding formula, that supports our top tier strategic plan, and for which students have clear outcomes such as placement. In order to incentivize this growth, we have proposed to deans that we will allow them to capture and use (to support these new students) as much as 70% of the net new tuition funding that these new students will contribute to UNLV. Thus far we have accepted and we are implementing four growth proposals, including a new Masters of Health Care Administration, a newly renovated undergraduate program in technology in business (along with a set of high demand computer applications courses), an expansion of the Physical Therapy program, and expansion of the Masters for teacher licensure program (with a specific focus on students/veterans that have a bachelors but were not licensed to teach). Our “Learning Outcomes” based, vertically integrated general education curriculum is unique to large publicly funded institutions and has been recognized by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U).
