Not only is there no color on the walls, but also there is not inspiration to students. The walls of each classroom are completely bare except for cords and the occasional display of students work. Adding inspiration to the walls in the form of posters, or pictures will help to invite students in. In the art building on the UNK campus, student’s work is often displayed and regularly changed out to keep creative juices flowing. The interior design department should adopt these practices. Having informational posters up could help students when doing projects or needing quick and easily forgotten information. Pictures of award winning interiors or recent student work will help to inspire and give other students ideas and creativity. There could also be an area where an inspiration board is placed and students post current trends of interior design and inspiring pictures in order to promote creativity. The room with samples is like a bonus to students and parents. It makes the experience and work real and legitimizes the work in the parents’ eyes. Having a room where samples are available to students makes the students excited to start learning and getting involved. The room would be an extra feature that would impress both students and parents. Using approach elements to market to new customers is very important to gaining new customers.
Conclusion
The UNK interior design classrooms are very important to students. Students spend a lot of time in the classrooms working on the require projects. Making the classrooms contain a lot of approach elements and very few or none avoidance elements is key to gaining more students into the program.
