Nigerian community has an extensive distrust with Western culture, the people are compelled to have negative expectations toward Western organizations, especially ones that work through the government such as UNICEF. However, the field workers only have access to certain areas of the country due to the North and South divide, originated from the above mentioned religious conflicts while the people’s innate negative impression towards outsiders would make it harder for the worker to connect with the community without understanding the culture and the people vindication behind their actions. Although the threat of terroristic acts has limited the field worker’s in action as well as the government effort in regaining the country balance, UNICEF has shifted their approach to the matter by making official announcement in appealing to the international community and therefore recruit more help from other authorities. At the same time, the organization would spread awareness through the internet and developing projects in collaboration with social media and telecommunication companies.
From July, 2015 UNICEF Nigeria has formed a partnership with Bharti Airtel, a global telecommunication company with focus service in central Asia and Africa. According to the agreement, UNICEF now have entry to Airtel Nigeria’s mobile service and able to broadcast information regarding health care, education, social welfare issues and other current events within the country towards Airtel service users all across the country.
