UC Berkeley Accomplishments

The past seventeen years of my life led up to this momentous month--this month that decided my future: the people I would meet, the caliber of the education that would serve as a foundation for my future, and even perhaps the connections that would serve me further along the road. It was with this knowledge that, at the start of the application process, I knew UC Berkeley was my top choice. Everything was superior, and not a single aspect that I valued was missing from its campus. The weeks where I was accepted and rejected from multiple colleges held little, if any sway on me as I waited for Berkeley’s fateful decision date. And in the days leading up to it, I was not sure what to expect, but I prayed for an acceptance. I applied as a physics major to UC Berkeley, and I am firm, if not more resolute about this decision. Since the initial application in November, I have performed even greater feats. I successfully tried out for Troy’s Science Olympiad team, where we compete in events that tests specific subsets within the general broad area of science. With this team, I participated in events relating to alternative energy, mechanics, astronomy, and geology. And as a team, we placed within the top two at every competition though we were …show more content…
However, Berkeley would provide one that is remarkable. Not only are the academics first-rate, but also is the community. Many students there are both politically knowledgeable and vocal, unafraid to speak their minds. And in a time where Congress is electing for Internet Service Providers to sell our internet history and the Environmental Protection Agency is being censored on social media, I believe it is important to be cognizant of what is going on. That is why I believe that Berkeley, as a university, would not only benefit me through its exceptional academics, but also through its intelligent, like-minded

Précis Frank Bruni’s article, “How to Survive the College Admissions Madness” (2015), criticizes American’s that emphasize that college is the most important and beneficial way to ensure a promising future. Bruni supports his position by referring to anecdotal stories of past experiences of college applicants, listing the qualifications of the applicants to make them relatable, and metaphorical comparisons to develop the author’s opinion. Bruni’s purpose is to admonish the concept of the college admission process measuring a person's worth in order to alleviate the disappointment students feel after rejection. Due to the author’s condescending tones this article is written to college bound students addressing the obsession to receive a…

Through my expected experiences at Cal Baptist University, I hope to grow and mature into an experienced, well-rounded person. Cal Baptist offers many different aspects on campus that allow students to reach their full potential. The main reason I am applying to CBU is for its positive atmosphere, future opportunities, and its education. Living currently in Ontario, moving away will force me to quickly take responsibility for myself and my own actions.…

Nichols paints the recruitment process as a frivolous experience meant to cater to a student’s every need. Nichols claims “Colleges now are marketed like multiyear vacation packages, rather a contract with an institution and its faculty for a course of educational study.” (72). This is unsound inductive reasoning on Nichols part. He does not offer sufficient evidence other than his own word or a few sporadic campus activities, very exclusive to the individual universities.…

“The streets are paved in sunshine.” This was the first statement I heard upon arriving at Stanford University. The woman who said those six words that caught me completely off guard approached me with a California-aged smile, casual and relaxed, and welcomed me with open arms. She introduced herself as an alumni of the university and proceeded to tell me about the great experiences she had as a student and the memories she created with her best friends in her “prime time”. As she rambled on, I realized that she said nothing about the stellar academics, the esteemed professors, or the endless professional opportunities offered at the University.…

Now picture hundreds of elementary kids sitting in rows upon rows of metal chairs with parents and coaches scattered among the young, eager faces. They say Disneyland is the happiest place on earth, but I believe UCLA is truly the happiest place on earth. Everytime I sit on Janss Hill and take in the glorious seventy-five and sunny socal weather or walk by the iconic Royce, I am always grateful to be at the most beautiful, inspiring campus. I am constantly motivated by my peers, professors, and the LA location. Yes, I experience highs and lows, but at the end of the day, I am always reminded and proud to be a Bruin. I’ve loved all of my classes and how relevant and academically enriching they are.…

Narrative Essay It was at the beginning of my senior year when my counselor started urging my senior class to start thinking about what universities we wanted to apply to. At the time, I did not know which universities I wanted to apply to or what were the differences between a Cal State, a UC, and a Private University. I did not even know about financial aid. I just knew that I wanted to be the first in my family to attend a University and get a degree.…

Boston University prides itself as not only an intellectual community, but also an energizing . Located along the side of the Charles River, my visit to BU helped me imagine myself walking on campus and attending classes. With over 2,000 research laboratories, BU provides an endless amount of opportunities to engage with professors and students on innovative STEM research. After learning more about the chances to have constructive dialogue with professors outside of the lecture halls and seminar rooms, I was immediately reminded of the intellectual environment I value at my current high school. One of the most important educational experiences I have had so far is the engagement of my teachers on my educational and non-academic careers.…
