Hey you made it! UBC Engineering! First off, great job getting into this competitive program! You should be proud of yourself and I hope you are excited to step into this amazing journey. I am writing to you to let you know about my transition to engineering so far and hopefully I can help you feel more welcome to this program. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am currently in first year engineering like you and I started this term quite worried and doubtful as to whether or not I belonged in engineering. I had no friends in the program, the environment was very different from where I was raised and the workload was absurd! I felt stressed because I had never experienced anything like this in high school. I was a straight A student in high school and played on three different sports teams at …show more content…
Unfortunately, it is something that a lot of first year engineering students that I have talked to can relate to. I know it might seem scary reading this letter but trust me; it gets better. After a couple of weeks into the first term, I started making some friends and let me tell you that the people you will meet in engineering are awesome! Not everyone is a nerd! Making new friends really helped in my transition in engineering because now I have a group of friends who I get together with daily to study and do homework with. If I were to give you one piece of advice, it would be to go meet new people and make some friends in engineering. You will notice how much work you get done and how fun engineering can really be! I also recommend that you start using a planner in case you already have not. I never used one before university and after I started using one, I was way more organized and able to get more work done. There will be the initial stress and doubt whether or not you belong in engineering but take my advice and hang in there and you will soon be on your way to success! Welcome to UBC

I decided to attend Florida A&M University (FAMU) for a variety of reasons, including the location of its campus, because I was offered a full scholarship, and of course, because of the pharmacy program. Moreover, I believe that I am the ideal candidate for being a part of FAMU’s pharmacy program. To begin, FAMU is located in Tallahassee, Florida, a city that I had wanted to attend college in since I was in elementary school. Tallahassee is a city of containing and surrounded by many events and opportunities, so no matter your preferred “scene,” you are likely to be able to find something you do. Another upside to FAMU’s location is that it also places me very close to my mother and the rest of my maternal family, who I had previously not gotten to see almost since elementary school.…

SAS Institute Inc. has consistently been ranked one of the best places to work over the years. From the short overview I have read about this company, I very much agree with how they have designed their management policies. There is often a desire to cut costs in order to increase profit, yet since SAS has cleverly focused on analytics, which is the most valuable and profitable area of their industry, they are eager to share the wealth they’ve earned with the people who work so hard to make it. When there is extra, there is no reason to give employees the bare minimum, and SAS’s success is a clear example of how that philosophy pays off.…

During these four years I have learned to balance my money, buying myself a car and keeping up with any bills that the car may bring. Working at the young age of fourteen and throughout my High School Career has taught me valuable lessons on time management on how to balance a working life, sports, academics and social life, which I would use to my full benefit while attending Penn State. My valuable time management skills would allow me just not to attend Penn State but to thrive at Penn State, immersing myself in organizations, schoolwide events, and my studies.…

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to be involved with something that has to do with grass. Growing up in the rural area of Southwest Virginia, mowing lawns is something that is commonly done by most residents and is often taught at a young age. When I was younger I always wanted to help my father mow the yard. I would get up in his lap and steer the wheel with him. It was moments like these that helped spark my love for mowing and yard work.…
