Because I am a captain of two activities, I work very hard to be a leader. In cross country, I help lead practices and activities. In chemistry club, I plan and lead activities to ensure safety. I really have developed my leadership goals throughout my time as a captain.…
She has been provided with the opportunity to develop into a leader. Although not always an outspoken leader, Katie’s actions and attitude toward an array of situations has developed her into a silent leader. Through striving for her own greatness, she has inspired athletes around her to also strive and challenge themselves to be better athletes. The leadership roles have extended to Katie, having the opportunity to become an official of different sports. Katie has had the chance to be a hockey referee as well as an official for canoe polo, both of these experiences have given her a chance to develop mentally and enhance her knowledge of leadership.…
Most kids want to grow up and be in the NBA/WNBA, but they can’t be those things if they aren’t taught the fundamental basics of the game. First, they must learn what all the positions are and what their roles. The point guard is the man/women bringing the ball and down the court, their main job is to set up plays and get the other players involved. The shooting guard is typically the best shooter on the team, the shooting guard stays on the outside for open shots, but can also be the first option for the point guard to pass to if he/she needs help. The small forward is smaller than a power forward, more agile and has a better jump shot.…
Walking on the pool deck my freshman year I was nervous yet excited. I questioned what I was doing as I had never played water polo, but I decided to give it a try. I thought, ‘how hard could it be.’ My first practice proved it was truly brutal. I was out of shape, did not perform the drills correctly, and I could barely swim with the ball.…
Over the past two years, I have participated in numerous extracurricular activities, from which I gained interpersonal skills, honed my public speaking abilities, and developed strong leadership qualities. However, one thing that I have gained from my leadership experiences is my unique approach to teamwork. I have a great deal of leadership experience from being a board member of two clubs, a part of the BCA Model UN Travel Team, and a student leader at my church. As mentioned before, I not only have experience in managing complex projects, but I am also well versed in how to facilitate a productive team dynamic. In every task that I am given, I constantly look for ways to challenge the status quo and improve upon past efforts, a characteristic that I developed while participating in Model UN.…
As a sophomore, I had to opportunity to get lots of playing time in varsity games and being a young player on the team, getting big playing time, I felt I had to take the leadership role in my sophomore class. Now that I am a senior on the team, I feel more of that weight on my shoulders. Being on the court most of the time, I feel it’s part of my duty, on and off the court, to be a leader for the girls. Keeping them serious in practice to just being someone they look up to when they need guidance, I feel those situations is what really taught me the leadership qualities. I’ve also inherited the leadership quality my senior year when I was chosen to be the student section leader.…
In the past four years, I have had many experiences with family, friends and an extreme amount of clubs, activities, and home life occasions I am involved in. But in all honesty sports have taught me a lot about people, life and even myself. I have been a part of many teams in my lifetime and played several abstract sports, but at Summit Academy High School the sports are very unique. There are mixed attitudes towards the teams, players and coaches that you would not see at any other school. But I like to call them obstacles and challenges.…
Many times in our lives we have the choice to be a leader or a follower. One of the many times that I have chosen a leadership role is when I was on my competitive cheerleading team. During one of our first competitions half of the team forgot our routine and the stunts all fell. While everyone stood there in silence I started saying the words and going through the stunts and routine and everyone followed my lead and we pushed through the embarrassment. I decided to take this leadership role because I knew that everyone was too afraid to be the only one to say the words in fear that no one else would say them too, so I knew that if I put my dignity aside for a moment our team still had a chance to shine and get a good score on our round.…
With me not being as good as some people on the basketball team, I ended up being one of the best on the break dance team. Not only did I become a good dancer, but I also became more patient with other’s abilities to learn. One of the main qualities from being on the break dance team has taught me was leadership. In the beginning, I was the one watching, but by my junior year in high school, I was the one teaching others. If I was to join the basketball team, I believe I wouldn’t have that leadership quality because I wouldn’t be in the position to enforce…
Playing high school football has changed the person I am now that I am at the end of my high school journey. From coming in as a quiet lazy freshman, I quickly changed into starting the development as a leader. Being vocal and demonstrating drills was not something I could reminisce on and say that I would of done the first day of summer camp my freshman year. From transferring schools football was my way in.…
Over the four years I played volleyball, the sport taught me that leading the team would lead to success. Our team needed a voice to guide the team, and being that voice taught me so much. Being a leader taught me that winning is not everything, as long as progress was being made that was all that mattered. I worked hard every day to guide the team and provide an example of what hard work…
Roland-Story offers students within each grade to be involved in a Norseman Way class which teaches leadership skills that I can use within and without sports. The class has made a very big impact on me and the ways I lead. For softball, I am in charge of a “pod” group made up of some underclassmen that also play softball. As a leader, I check in with all of the girls, hold them accountable for coming to practices, help them work told their goals, and most importantly make sure they are enjoying the sport. Not only do I do this as their teammate…
Watching the ball leave my teammate’s stick, fly through the air, and land in my stick was only the beginning of my love for lacrosse. Now, every time I shoot the ball and it strikes the back of the net, I remember the first time I played lacrosse and I am extremely grateful for it. I knew from the moment I picked up a stick, that I had a future and I would need to work extremely hard to become the best player I could be. Although I was not able to catch or throw my first time practicing, I kept pushing myself and evolved into the strong player I am today. After a surprising moment during my sophomore year of high school, my love for lacrosse was never the same and the respect I have for the sport and other players has grown immensely.…
Each day presents challenges – and, therefore, opportunities – for me to grow as a more effective leader in my school and community. I exhibit leadership, whether quietly guiding by example or providing in an allocated position, individually and in my service and job responsibilities. In addition to my experience, I have also been enlightened by my health challenges. My philosophy is to achieve optimal effort in everything I undertake, although I have a bio-neurological condition that many would view as a hindrance, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). There are preconceptions that others may have about ADHD;…
Each experience has taught me a new characteristic that applies for becoming a leader in every day experiences. From the smallest details to impacting lessons, I’ve taken a valuable point from my leadership roles especially in the times of High School and the Honors program in Miami Dade…
