The Importance Of Military Peace

Improved Essays
The need for peace is growing. Military action overseas is becoming the norm instead of only when needed. The U.S military is on the ground almost any where that there is a disturbance in peace instead of only when the freedom of the American citizen is in jeopardy. It seems almost that American military is becoming world peace keepers instead of the protectors of America. The men and women who are joining and being deployed on these missions are not signing up to fight other people’s battles that do not involve us. The United States soldiers are being paid too little, being kept from their families, and dying when they have everything to lose but nothing to win. Most would find this morally wrong, yet the American government keeps sending …show more content…
military is becoming known all around which is a good thing and also a bad thing at the same time. Many will ask how could this be both good and bad. Many do believe it should be world known that America does have an amazing military made up of the strongest and smartest out there, yet it does not need to be known as the world police that will come and be killed or wounded just because of a power mad individual who has insane ideas and forcing individuals to submit to these ideas. One would think that The United States would stay out of it until the general public becomes endangered yet, ever since World War II it seems that the american troops have had a hand in almost any military exercise whether it be to help the civilians of a particular country or to help push the cause of the attackers in this country. The United States has even declared a war on terror in 2001 specifically looking for all terrorists worldwide no matter where they are hiding the U.S. was searching seeking and attacking these individuals and groups. Some will counter that without these men and women going overseas fighting these terrorist “bringing the fight to the terrorist” is just protecting the U.S from future terror attacks. These terrorist do need to be caught and their terrany be ended but by the country they are in not other countries especially americans getting on their soil chasing these men and women. If they need assistance in these occasions then that is when America should send …show more content…
can not only protect itself and soldiers, but it can still assist these countries in need of help. The “American Soldier” can stop being seen as a world wide policemen and start being seen as what they truly are, the protector of american freedom. A very low paid protector of freedom yet these men and women still go to war risking their lives on a daily basis while willing to put their families to the side to reach the goal of their mission is something that makes these soldiers deserve to be commended very highly and be praised but most of all stay home till it is time that their bravery is needed most to protect The United States from those who want to take from it the things that America has fought most for. The freedom of the public, the protection, and has the bravery to live however the citizens living in the United States see

The United States has come a long way since the days of the American Revolution or either of the World Wars. Today war is all about airstrikes, drones, and the use of any other new technology in order to find a way to keep our troops at home and fighting conflicts without having “boots on the ground” as the saying goes. However even with, or perhaps because of, this new technology our country finds itself involved in conflicts that are unconventional to what we have seen in our history. The young generation of Americans today has grown up learning about the wars against terrorism where the enemy is hard to really signal out from a large crowd. We have become accustomed to fighting against what Max Boot calls “invisible armies” because it’s…

In A Separate Peace by John Knowles, perception versus reality is a recurring conflict for Gene, Leper and Finny in the novel. Perception is defined as “an interpretation or impression of something or an opinion or belief” while reality is defined as “the quality or state of being actual, true and unchangeable.” In the novel, the characters don’t understand each other which cause their perceptions of each other to be inaccurate. Despite their friendship, Gene and Finny don’t know the true essence of each other's being. Finny doesn’t understand how Gene is “ a savage underneath”(145), and until it is too late Gene does not grasp the genuine lack of hostility in Finny.…

Pros and Cons of American Imperialism America is one of the most powerful nations of the world. Its sheer size, economy, territories, and technological advancements make it so influential that many smaller nations or cultures look up to America as if it were a god. Many decades ago, America established its dominance over other nations, particularly during the two world wars by showing off its military prowess and interfering with what are supposedly local affairs of other governments. Imperialism is more of a negative idea than a positive one – it signifies a nation's thirst for expansion at the expense of others.…

American political scientist, Joseph S. Nye Jr believes that the U.S. should balance power, he proves this when he says, “Therefore the primary or first thing that America has to do is make sure that we have a stable balance. That's why we have 100,000 troops in Europe, 100,000 in Asia, about 20,000 in the Gulf, essentially because it is a stabilizing factor and we benefit from that stability.” Which shows that the U.S. already brings balance. And when the U.S. brings a balance of powers then all nations balance eachother out and will not attack each other such as the checks and balance system. And if the U.S. could not be involved in world affairs then America could not balance power and problems that might arise without our help.…

One editorial cartoon effectively shows this when a soldier returns home to americans who ask what war he was in (Source F). American citizens are beginning to find pride in their military escalation in wars across the globe. This is very troubling considering the costs of war. More than 210,000 civilians have died in these conflicts They died in the Iraq and Afghan wars, which the US refuses to end. Those civilians were very real, and were more than just numbers on the news like they are portrayed on television news in the US.…

One argument from Maslow’s essay “The Need to Know and the Fear of Knowing” which directly relates to A Separate Peace is that one often evades knowledge of their true selves. Although Phineas’s nonchalant and loyal characteristics make him seem almost godlike, he seems to also fear certain aspects of himself. In particular, he has a fear that his basic desires contradict the innocent person everyone perceives him to be. For many of the students at the Devon school, the war seems almost fictional, partially because of the attitudes of people such as Finny. Finny’s ignorance of the rules, yet simultaneous loyalty and sincerity, made him seem innocent despite the trouble he got himself into.…

At some point we have to ask ourselves is that to much? No, because our will to fight and survive is stronger than our will to lay down and die. When you think of the media you probably think about the recent election, what Kim Kardashian and Kanye West just recently did, or probably what happened that night in sports. Do you ever really think about the military in the media though? It’s a very scary thought to see or hear about what our military does for us. Nobody really wants to hear about that stuff unless it’s really important like the Osama Bin Laden death, or how many kills Chris Kyle had. We respect these men and women that fight for us over-seas but is it enough to tell us about in the media today?…

Getting involved internationally only to be unethical can be worse for our image than not getting involved at all. An example of this is our involvement in the Iraq war and the Prisoner of War camps at Abu Ghraib. Although we were involved for the purpose of the “War on Terror”, this became a scandal in which US soldiers engaged in what President George W. Bush called an “alternative set of procedures” (CITATION). They were really ghastly incidents of torture on innocent Iraqi citizens (CITATION, MOVIE). The photos exposed inhumane actions taken against prisoners of war.…
