U-High Creek Water Quality Analysis

The water quality of the U-High Creek is excellent. However, not all bodies of water are excellent like the U-High Creek. Some creeks, lakes, rivers, streams, etc. have bad water quality. This poor water quality can come from eutrophication. Eutrophication is the process of runoff water from land entering a body of water that contains an excess amount of nitrates and phosphates, polluting the water of these chemicals. Once the water contains this nitrogen and phosphorus, it causes algae to grow rapidly. Consequently, using up the oxygen levels in the water, causing the organisms in the water to die (Lenntech, 1998). As well as eutrophication, pollution in the water can come from soil erosion. Similar to eutrophication, soil can contain chemicals or other harmful substances put in the soil by humans. The Netting TrashTrap is a system to collect and remove pollution from bodies of water using passive motion into mesh nets (Fresh Creek, 2016). This system not only removes the physical pollution from the water (human waste), but it also removes the grasses and plant pollution in the water. This technological solution can also act as a filter for the body of water (Fresh Creek, 2016). In spite of the positives, the Netting TrashTrap also has negatives. Large organisms such as fish can get caught in the net, putting their lives in danger. As well as trapping organisms, the Netting TrashTrap also takes up a great amount of physical space in the water, allowing nothing to pass through the body of water without getting caught in the mesh net (Proctor, 2016). In conclusion, although the water quality of the U-High Creek is excellent, not all bodies of water have excellent water quality, therefore humans can develop ways to improve water
