Typical Small Town USA

Driving through Afton, feels like the typical small town USA. I went through on a Sunday morning, during the time that churches are in service. The church parking lots that I passed are packed, but main street only has a few cars. Due to it being a Sunday, many of the shops and restaurants are closed. The only opened shop on main street is the pizzeria. The sidewalks are all cleared of snow, and the roads are also plowed and salted. Many of the houses are larger and white, but all seem to be in good shape. It is clear that this is a farming based town, due to the feed store located near the end of main street. Once outside of the main street and onto route seven, you are seeing woods and farmlands. There are both horses

Oh, how the times have changed. My once small and serene neighborhood is transforming into an expansive and raucous city of its very own. Yes, the hospitable community of Julington Creek is gone forever, instead being exchanged for the bustling city life. My home, Julington Creek, is now a vastly different area than it was when I first moved to Florida, it is growing at an uncontrollable rate, loosing sizable plots of wooded land, and has lost its true identity as a community. When I first moved to Julington Creek, the last homes were finishing construction and the first families were just beginning to settle in.…

Back on the islands of Malaysia, my dad had to work through many difficult tasks that we take for granted every day in our luxurious lives. Although he was blessed to have something to cover his head, it took the form of a canvas which combined with a stick formed a tent-like structure. He also had the necessities he needed to keep him alive such as water, but he had to travel a long distance with a bucket there and back to reach the local watering well of the whole community. In addition, to use the restroom, he had to climb up a towering mountain to reach a hole in the ground where you had to pour water into the hole to take the place of a plumbing system. “Welcome to America!”…

Blind optimism is a consequence of living in a small town. The general friendliness and goodness of everyone allows for trust in all situations; it is assumed that everyone is a decent person. My position on this is small town. The reason i say it's better to grow up in a small town is because you're more known for what u do,the reason for that is because less people for you to know and the people u do get to know won't just forget about you in 2 days they will know u forever if ur in there small town. And i think public schools actually need a class that teaches kids simple stuff u need to know in life like for instance i knew a kid who didnt know how to change a tire and tighten the nuts on the tire. That's why i believe a class like they should be taught bc those skills are more important in life than any others.…

One of the biggest reasons why some may be put off from moving to a country town, are the types of careers or sometimes the lack of. In most small towns the job or career oppritunites have taken a great blow, we can take Quesnel for example. A lot of mills have shut down causing workers to be laid off, many would not want to be moving into a town where there are already unemployed individuals looking for jobs. It does not mean there are no job opprotunities at all in small towns,Sandra Ruiz, who is an event coordinator for region 8 explains that "Job development opportunities in small towns often exceed expectations if a job developer knows where and how to look for them. " Every small town has some type of uniqueness to it, or something special…

Farm City Connecting to Themes in 13 Ways of Seeing Nature in LA “Farm City” is a personal narrative written by Novella Carpenter chronicling her experience as an urban farmer in a run-down, impoverished neighborhood in Oakland. She relates her experience with farming and interacting with the people in the neighborhood, as well as the ways in which her farm, her neighbors and her neighborhood interact. Carpenter effectively uses narrative to display some of the main concepts relating to urban nature that already occupy public consciousness as identified by Jennifer Price in “Thirteen Ways of Seeing Nature in LA.” These themes include consumerism, poverty, and urban and “natural” ecosystems. However, her personal narrative style fails to extend…
