My very first concussion happened during the summer of sixth grade year, I had flipped over the handlebars of my bike and I hit the ground, hard. My second concussion happened seventh grade in gym class, we were running the mile and one of my classmates thought it was a good idea to jump over me while I tied my shoes. Well I had lifted my head up during mid-jump and his shin made direct contact with my skull, which put me into a dizzy mindset. My third concussion also happened in gym some kid accidentally threw a basketball at my head which lead to me falling to the ground, clearly I should not be in a gym class. My fourth concussion happened when a “friend” pushed me and I fell into a metal pole.…
Six years after a concussion in a high school football game, Cody Lehe still lives with his parents, and can barely function like a normal person can. After a helmet to helmet hit in a football game, followed by a second hit in practice, Cody now has what doctors call second impact syndrome. After 55 days in the intensive care unit, Cody was transferred to the rehabilitation section of the hospital, and finally left the hospital after 98 days. He has suffered cardiac arrest, hypotension, pneumonia, renal failure and sepsis, along with not being able to walk or talk. (Lupkin 14)…
Concussion Protocol The NFL has been talking about their protocols on players when they get concussions. The topic is discussed very much and should be taken very seriously not only to professional players, but to players all around the world. Many athletes don’t take this injury very seriously. They just think they’ll get over the injury in a couple days and continue to play.…
I got my concussion playing football in 8th grade. I got the handoff and ran up to the line of scrimmage. I was clobbered in the head from behind. When I got up I was really muddled and dizzy. My coach called a timeout and had the trainer come look at me.…
It was just one hit you told your coach. He let you back in the game. You didn’t bother to give him the note from your doctor but you wish you did. That “one hit” led you to lose focus at school, get bad grades, forget about the paper even though you set three reminders on your phone for it. That “one hit” led to another hit, which led to another, which led you to laying in the middle of the football field unconscious.…
Ever since I was young, I have been highly active in softball and basketball. I can only recall one incident of ever having a concussion, and that was during high school basketball. Another girl and I collided head first, and I was graced with the bad end of the deal with a concussion. I felt nauseous, had an awful headache, and could barely walk without feeling lightheaded. I was required to sit out of all upcoming practices and games until our athletic trainer cleared me for playing.…
The next hit to my head could possibly kill me or be life damaging. This last one could be life damaging. It has taken a great toll on me. This concussion was a bad one. A Grade 3 concussion is real serious.…
Between my sophomore and junior year in highschool I received two concussions while cheering on my school's varsity squad. Three months after my last concussion I was experiencing excruciating headaches, light sensitivity, memory issues, persistent fatigue, and struggles with my school work. Everyday tasks like walking up the stairs, waking up on time, and remembering the route to school became substantial hurdles. Anxious, my mother decided to take me to see a neurologist. I went through multiple MRI’s, CT scans, and X-Rays to determine the condition of my neck and brain tissues, all of which returned normal.…
The Concussion While growing up my life had always been about basketball. My life was always dedicated to practice and games, there was not very much time for anything else like friends birthday parties or movies. My life would always revolve around either basketball or school. Right after school I would go straight to basketball and right when basketball would end I would go home and do my homework. I did not know what to do to balance everything out, my grades were never bad but they weren’t what I wanted them to be.…
Friday Mornings I rushed my full stomach to my room and I pulled out the bottom of my semi formal clothings and pants drawer. Being the control freak that I am, I also picked out my brother’s outfit. My mother was kind enough to let me select my own outfit to school as a second grader. Enrolled in a small, private, and conservative Christian school, where the moms are very in everyone’s business; not many of my friends were allowed to pick out their “free friday” outfits. Although now, I wish my mother would restrict some of the things I wore.…
I ambled around my family's spacious property, the same property I had traipsed around almost every day in my life. I had walked this property feeling elated, dejected, and even puzzled, but today I was feeling as aggravated as I feel when a teacher gives out homework on a sunny day. I would have much rather been inside my comforting house, eating a delectable dinner, as delicious to me as any five star restaurant, with my family, than looking for my annoying brother. Through our dense treeline, I yet walked, to our mystical pond. Dodging the constant tree branches, I became more and more irritated.…
It’s 12 AM. I now know what it is to walk down an unlit street at midnight and have a gun cocked in your mouth. I know what it is to discover that gun shaking in your own hand. 1:45 AM I have swallowed more pints of regret than you pump blood through your whole body 2:37AM I went as far as to hold a bottle in my hand but couldn't bring myself to swallow because your name was stuck in my throat. 3 AM…
In the book Story of an Hour, the use of limited narrative allows for us to see and understand what was going on the mind of Louise, while giving hints as to what is going on in the minds of the other characters in relation to Louise and enabling us to come up with a logical conclusion as to how the actions or words of the characters causes the main character to react or behave. In Story of an Hour we see that Louise “…wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister's arms”. In this quote we are lead to believe that Louise feels great grief as expected of someone who has just lost their husband and so far is going with the convention, however, we see that “The vacant stare and the look of terror that had followed it went from her…
