There are many types of scientific ways of learning that include but is not limited to psychology, sociology, and political science to name a few. But learning if not limited to scientific ways, learning can also be accomplished through non-scientific ways such as learning from personal experience, learning from parents or through tradition, and even using religion to learn, understand, and know the world. Religion is similar to learning from your parents because it is likely that a child will keep the same religious following that their parents had. But it is different in the sense that some people follow religion closely. The dos and don’ts are important to them and they use their religious books (The Quran, The Torah, or The Bible) to base their understanding and knowing of the world. Many religions will say God created the heavens and earth in seven days. Scientists will differ with this idea as they would go back to the big bang. So religion is different and does help shape the understanding of the world differently than the …show more content…
I had a friend in high school who usually dressed uniquely to school. He would wear suits and dress up clothes to school some days of the week. When he would do this he would get weird looks from our peers in school. They would look at him like he was an alien from another planet, and would question why he would dress like that. The reason he dressed like that was because that is how he imagines himself in the future, working a good job, making a good salary, being able to dress nicely and look professional. He said it motivated and made him unique compared to everyone else who usually wore clothes along the same lines consisting of shorts, jeans, sweats, shirts, and sweaters. Growing up, I always thought that being unique and different was good and gave you a self-identity that shaped who you are but realized that those that are different and unique are considered weird and abnormal. I respected him for being proud of himself and not let the voices of those around him change his

People tend to notice things that are different. If something stands out or is different than the rest, it immediately draws attention, and attention draws scrutiny. By doing something different or simply by naturally standing out, a person is inviting scrutiny and judgement as to whether that difference is a positive or negative thing, or, as Turkish philosopher Mehmet Murat Ildan insightfully and correctly put it, a blessing or a curse. Changes in policy or thinking are often noticeable and inevitably reacted to with either popular support or popular condemnation. When Franklin Roosevelt changed the government’s position towards the economy forever by instituting his “New Deal”, or when Donald Trump decided to change the way we guard our border by erecting a wall, a change was made in the attitude of our government in regards to the welfare and security of America, and they were certainly judged for it.…

What do we know as a perfect society? Is it a society where people do not have any sort of moral problems? Or is it where we look at nature, and all its beauty that is has created and base our life around that? Taking that in consideration, I have participated in experiments that unlock the full potential of transcendentalism, a philosophical movement that developed in early nineteenth century United States, to see if they are relatable in the twenty-first century. While Transcendentalism is not a necessity to enjoy our life, they do imply many ideals that could be morphed into our daily life to better our own society.…

    1. Why was the article by Michael Buckland, “Histories, heritages, and the past: The case of Emanuel Goldberg” was given as the first reading for the course? The case of Emmanuel Goldberg illustrates the convoluted path back to the origin of an idea as well as the factors that contributed to its blurred out past. His work shows the intricacies of social memory, as the ‘erasure’ of Emmanuel Goldberg and his life’s work was so multifaceted—confounded by politics, war, nationalism, physical destruction, religious and racial discrimination, censorship, and an ongoing list of factors.…

When describing how I like to dress, I say that I like wearing pinks and different shades of coral. Every now and then I like to wear all black. I like floral prints, animal prints and stripes. I’m a fan of cardigans, and enjoy wearing ripped jeans occasionally.…

It is well known that the south is one of the most conservative places in the United States, with a mainly republican population, a history of racial tension, and the intolerance shown by some of the residents. The South prides itself on believing in “traditional” values and shows little to no understanding of the changes that are happening in the world. It’s no wonder then that I, as a half Mexican-American, gay young woman have run into prejudice and discrimination based on my sexaul orientation, gender, and race. It is natural for people to explore who they are and what they want to be as they are growing up, especially throughout puberty and the years following. In doing so, many young adults change their style various times, going through differences in their taste of clothes, hobbies, and hair styles.…

Survey shows that an immense amount of Americans believe that being unique and standing out is more valuable than fitting in. To be more precise, 83% of people surveyed believe this to be true. Personally I didn’t find these results to be that shocking because as a society we push people to be uniquely themselves so often. If you were to google the term ‘inspiring quotes’ majority of those quotes are centered around the beauty of standing out. We’ve been brainwashed to believe that standing out is better than fitting in without fully understanding the benefits of the latter.…

America is great due to its' freedom but freedom is something that needs defended. Freedom needs defended because it is what defines our country and what has created us the way we are. Freedom is not something that is passed on from bloodline to bloodline but instead is something that is learned from our elders and shared as our culture. But what is freedom; freedom is "the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint."…

The question that I chose to study is the fourth option, “which activities and interventions help students with lower reading scores significantly increase their reading scores?” I am going to approach this investigation by using the scientific method. “This method consists of: observing a problem, asking a question, doing some outside research, forming a hypothesis, testing the hypothesis by creating an experiment, and analyzing the data to draw a conclusion from it. ”(Morris & Maisto, 2010, page 8) “The scientific method is what psychologists and scientists use to answer questions.…

Andy started to dress fashionably as her attitude to fashion became stronger as her colleagues began to accept her and encourage her which increased her self-esteem. Due to Andy initially demonstrating an ambivalent attitude towards fashion it was easy to change her attitude as she had neither a negative or positive attitude towards fashion. She had an ambivalent attitude towards fashion because she had little knowledge on fashion and how to dress. Andy’s attitude was also affected by her situation as she began a new job at Runway where everyone was dressed differently to her. Andy decided that she is no longer going to present an ambivalent attitude towards fashion because she wanted to fit the new social situation she was in and it the social norms that were evident in her workplace.…
