Nonverbal Communication In American Sign Language

Improved Essays
A lot of times when the word nonverbal communication comes to people 's minds they usually think of American Sign Language and how deaf people use it on day to day basis to communicate to others but little do they know that it happens in our everyday life amongst every one around the world. Whether it 's something as quick as a head nod or someone displaying large amounts of hand gestures while telling a story. This is something most people are unaware that they do something that happens subconsciously. Knowing how to read types of body languages can change the entire perspective on so many things. It can really show how sometimes what people say isn’t necessarily mean what they mean. For instance, if one were to invite me to a party that …show more content…
The first one I paid attention to was the face and eyes. It seemed as though every time the girl would open her mouth to speak she would squint like she 's speaking with her eyes in a sense saying "do you know what I mean” the guy 's eyes on the other hand would bulge out more and he 'll nod his head in way meaning "I understand what your saying" only without saying it. The next thing I noticed where kinesics, there different types of postures and gestures they presented. For instance, the girl touched her hair a lot she even ran her fingers from the top of her head all the way down but if obvious that her was partly tangled by the amount of time she spent doing one stroke. The guy also tippy toed a lot to examine the top of her head and then he would run his fingers through her hair as well. There was a lot of haptics going on between the two. As I was observing them through the glass window I also began to notice signs on the window that I didn 't notice before like Brazilian keratine, make-up, facials and right above the list of bullets points a medium sized light up sign read beach club …show more content…
For example, he reached for something behind him and began showing her something I concluded was an album with different hairstyle pictures but by her facial expression I can tell she lacked a lot of interest in the images that were being shown to her because she even went as far as to going on her phone and showing him something which I can only predict was a photo as well. Then he held his chin and tilted his head back as if he was trying to picture the outcome of something. I can also say with confidence that there relationship between one another was hair styler and client. Based on how he touched her and how they seemed sort of open to each other in a sense I 'm guessing it wasn 't her first time going to that specific salon but perhaps the first time she 's gone and has demanded something new other than what she usually gets. Trying to decipher which was more dominant between the two is a bit of a challenge because the guys hand movements and how he would place his hand on his waist when not speaking did come off as a little feminine. They began to go in back and forth for about another 20 to 25 minutes before the guy pointed toward a sink and by him doing this I presumed that they both agreed on a hairstyle that would not only look great on her but something that he could do as well. There are so many things

After finally deciding to wear my blue sweater, the one Mom told me brought out my eyes, I drowned myself in Justin Biebers' Boyfriend perfume, and I was ready for my first date.…

When some people hear about baby sign language on local news clips or television they might think that teaching babies how to communicate through signing is just a fad. In my 19 years experience of teaching hearing children how to sign as a form of regular communication, I can say that signing with your child is not just a fad, rather a smart parenting technique that can have lasting positive effects on your child to adulthood. My work has created a fascination for me to discover why hearing babies and toddlers should learn America Sign Language as a form of communication. A follower asked me if they could shadow me and told me that their first thoughts were that the natural development of babies up until a certain age is not to speak, so teaching babies sign language to communicate seems slightly unnatural and premature.…
