Introduction
What is Elder Abuse? Elder abuse is the mistreatment or neglect of an older adult, which can be done intentionally or unintentionally. Different categories of abuse include physical, sexual, emotional, financial exploitation, neglect, self-neglect, and abandonment. Older adults are the fastest-growing population in the United States. Adults of age 65 and older are considered older adults because that is the age eligibility set for receiving retirement and government sponsored health benefits in the US.

There are few scenarios that may have been brought out to the public eye via media but these citings are not as frequent. So, it is important to make public and healthcare professionals more aware of incidence and severity of abuse, and the society would to able to better recognize the risk factors before the abuse occurs. Advocacy is another method to prevent abuse. More advocates are needed to help victims to share their stories with media and policy makes so stricter laws can be developed to lower elder abuse. Also, increasing government funding can help by promoting research and creating additional programs to lessen the burden on the caregiver. Last but not the least, providing older adults with knowledge about protecting themselves by being careful about whom they designate their power of attorney to, or making them aware of scam methods, and how to become a victim of financial exploitation and other abuses. Along with that is the issue related to it know as elder abuse. It is important yet difficult to recognize the signs and symptoms of these abuses. That is why knowledge is essential to gain and share to help diminish this issue. Which can be done by empowering the healthcare providers, public and the older adults by the knowledge of abuse which can lead to revelation of this
