One non-communicable disease is Diabetes. Diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the body’s inability to produce any or enough insulin this causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood. How is Diabetes contracted? Well it all starts with the pancreas, one of the pancreases functions is to manufacture a hormone (insulin) and secrete the hormone into the bloodstream. When we eat our food like carbs, fats, and proteins it gets broken down in our intestine and then absorbed into the bloodstream as glucose (which glucose is used as energy for the body.) As the level of glucose increases in the bloodstream, the pancreas gets a signal to release insulin. When there is not enough insulin or there our cells don’t respond well to the insulin the glucose doesn’t allow the insulin in the cells cannot provide energy. Resulting this as Diabetes. There are three different types of Diabetes. There is type one diabetes, type two diabetes, and gestational diabetes. Type one diabetes is what I described in my introduction, type two diabetes works the same but produces some insulin, and gestational diabetes can happen to woman after they are pregnant and deliver a baby that is nine pounds or more.
