Her BMI is 28 classifying her as obese. She has a family history of type 2 diabetes, and obesity. Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus is a common chronic disease in children and adolescents, and its incidence is approximately two-third of all diabetes cases diagnosed in children. (According to Haller, Atkinson, & Schatz, 2005; Karvonen et al., 2000; quote form Pediatric nursing/Jan-Feb 2015/Vol.41/No1.) It is a multifactorial disease with strong genetic component and is caused by the autoimmune destruction of pancreatic B cells. (Steck, Andrea K; Rewers, Marian J. Genetics of type 1 diabetes. Social Determinants The client comes from a family history of Drugs, alcohol and abuse. Her grandmother started drinking at the age of 12 to cope with the mental and physical abuse she encounter from her mother. Her mother killed herself and she had to move in with an aunt and her two children. The grandmother becomes pregnant with twins at the age of 18 and gives them both up for adoption. The client’s mother grew-up in a well stable home with her adopted parents. They have know obvious abnormality observed except that the mother is a cigarette
